Drogba and Bosingwa bans reduced

To me it doesn't matter what happened to make him mad, what Drogba actually did deserved a season long ban from CL football, same with Ballack (even though what he did was hilarious)

Agreed; the punishments should be based on the principles surrounding conduct towards the referee, and the specific 'performance' of the official in question should not come into play when making these decisions.

I disagree, there needs to be some understanding of the situation the players were in. This is taken into account in law, why not for sport?

Surely there is a world of difference between Rooney and a whole host of other players doing the usual "For F's sake! What are you doing!? He tripped me!!" etc...etc... every game where most referees take it as a heat of the moment type thing and over look it.

So heat of the moment is OK for Rooney, who does it every week, but not for Drogba?

So it's ok to do it if a referee has made a mistake, is that what you're saying?

Does Rooney do it directly at the camera in a high profile game?

Or does he just mouth off at the referee like 90% of the rest of the footballing population?

What Drogba and Ballack did in that game was disgraceful and if MU players did that I would expect there to be punishment.

Although we all know it would have been a 15 match ban if MU were involved.

Doubt it would have made any difference though.

Me neither but to be warned directly from UEFA that if we appealed the ban may be increased is off putting to say the least.

Can we go back and replay the game with Fletcher in midfield now then because the refereee made a mistake?

But that just looks like sour grapes then doesn't it?

I agree that the treatment seems harsh on Man Utd incidentally.

No, at no point did I say it was OK. However, the whole situation and circumstance needs must be taken into account.

No, he does it directly at the ref in every single game.

Me too. Punishment like there has been...

More like 15 mins. manyoo always get off lightly.

If it was a mistake it would have been rescinded, the referee had every chance to correct it if he felt he made a mistake upon reviewing the incident after the game. Funny that he didn't! (The Fletcher incident)

In fairness it's disgraceful that he didn't. The ref should be punished for not seeing that he was wrong in that situation.

the ref was a disgrace ridiculous infact but that doesnt condone the way drogba acted he always goes abotu things in the wrong way and thats the cold hard truth but bosingwa only told the truth lol drogba was ****ed off because he missed the easiest of chances throughout boht legs

I think it was harsh but in the letter of the law you can't wrap your arm around somebody and then challenge them from behind 5 yards from goal no matter if your toe scrapes the ball or not, always likely to be sent off

Rooney mouths off the ref yes I agree, so do most other players during a game, it's got better but it still happens.

Do you think that punishment given out was acceptable then? Or was it a cop out by UEFA again and then reduced anyway!

Aye we do, I admit we always get decisions that go for us every season, Vidic, Evra, Rooney, Scholes all got dealt with in a fair and even manner.

Rooney and Scholes both sent off in friendlies and then being banned for European and domestic games was truly justified :/

Evra getting a 4 game ban :/

I won't even bring up Ferdinand :p

Yeah, but they all deserved it.

Was the Bosingwa ban for the kick in the back? I'm struggling to remember what he was punished for :/

That was against Liverpool

IINM he was banned for his post-match comments. He basically called the ref a cheat iirc.

We do though to be fair G|mp, Evra should have been banned from football for his horrific attack on that Chelsea groundstaff member after the game. Facht!

What I do find amazing is this general consensus that Rooney blows his lid every single game, swears at the referee every weekend, etc etc. When in fact people who watch every minute of every game like I do, can actually vouch that he does not do anything of the sort every weekend. Don't buy into the 2 minute analysis of Rooney's behaviour you see on MOTD every six months. To say he does it every single game is so far from the truth. Ronaldo last season on the other hand...

Regarding Bosingwa last year, nothing was done for this:

That's worse than Drogba's offence IMO. Drogba was in the wrong, but was in a cauldron and was cheated out of possibly the biggest game of his career. To come out afterwards in the press and call the ref a thief (or cheat) is worse.

May well be true, but it is still worse.

[edit]I agree that Bosingwa 'challenge' is ridiculous.

I also think it ridiculous to say the ref doesn't get grief/sworn at by Rooney every match.
