My first car - Only a banger, but hey...

Isn't it? But it is EXACTLY what you were saying, you can't spend near the value of the car on tyres.

Ok lets be pedantic, if i bought a £50 car i would drive it till the car needed tyres then throw it away and buy another.

With a bit of luck i might get free shipping out of this thread yet lol.

Even if it had Ting Tong tyres that made the car spin 180 every time you feathered the noisy pedal?

But realistically it would never happen. What would be the point in buying a cheap car then putting Goodyear Eagle F1's on it? It's a false economy. While i'm not suggesting you buy the absolute cheapest tyres available, low-mid range tyres will be more than sufficient.

I was expecting you to put up more of a fight. I'm disappointed.

I don't care what tyres people put on their cars, i'm not going to harass people over it as I doubt people wouldn't really appreciate a small shouty bloke kicking down their door for buying a set of Ling Longs. It irritates me when people don't know the difference or refuse to accept certain brands of tyres are rubbish and then try and argue that they don't plan on racing around so they don't need decent tyres. It irritater me when I see people on forums complete project cars with expensive suspension setups to go on and boast about getting a set of Wan Li powergrips for 50p fully fitted.

Why is it a false economy? Since when has the purchase price of a vehicle been proportional to the running costs?

If you are aware that you will need to spend a couple of hundred on tyres at the time you get the car then I don't see the problem.

I agree with everything you just said then, and if you read back over what iv said in the last dozen posts, i never suggested getting a set of yokmojo specials, i said whatever is on offor or discounted that is decent at the time.

Well generally you would own a cheap car because having a nice expensive car isn't your top priority as you have other things to spend your money on. Why would you buy a car on a budget and then equipping it with top of the range tyres? Surely if your so concious about the price of the car it wouldn't be worthwhile spending a great deal on the tyres when cheaper alternatives would be sufficient.

Because it's called maintaining a car to safe standards which involve not cutting corners, using OEM parts, brakes that aren't made out of fudge and tyres that can maintain a decent level of grip.

I've seen people with nice cars with budget tyres on, there's no correlation between the value of a car and the maintenance of it. It's down to the individual's attitude.

What if you can't afford an expensive car?

I can't afford expensive cars but will always put decent rubber on them.

I have to ask, what is sub standard about a Pirelli, Michelin or Dunlop tyre?

All of which are available as end of line discounts, in sale or just promotional offers regularly.

They were the sort of tyres i was talking about, i never mentioned a tenner remould anywhere.
