I've recently started a new job which pays out every Friday. I'm with Halifax and I'm rather worried as I've checked my online banking and there's no mention of my wages whatsoever. My "Available Balance" remains the same. Would this be normal? Would it, for example take perhaps 24 hours to update?

I'm just a bit worried I haven't been paid.

Ask the finance dept at work when they sent your wages through - check they have the correct bank details.

Cos if not some other dude is getting paid per week and not telling anyone ;)

Just been off the phone to the company. Apparently because I only provided my national insurance number and not a photocopy of a document containing the number, they can't pay me. So, looks like I have zero money until next week, which frankly I can't manage.

I got paid weekly and it always arrived at 0300 on a Friday, so you might have some issues you might need to clarify with your companies finance dept. Otherwise as already stated if they use a slower transfer system it could be in there by next week sometime.

Why do they need a photocopy of a document ?
If you have provided a valid NI number and a tax code they owe you now. You can check with HMRC but you are entitled to be paid for your work. Even if they subtract a higher tax rate while the issue is sorted out. They are not entitiled to withhold your money.
