Why do people bother "working out"?

I'd say someone who goes to the gym for 2 hours 5 times a week is going to be pretty fit tbh

Depends what you're doing whilst there. It's a waste of money if you aren't pushing yourself, which I'm guessing you don't do if you find it hard to run 3 miles.

an hour on the bike each time, followed by some weights, stretching and other floor work. Plus an hours boxing twice a week. I may not be an athlete, but there's no way I'm unfit, I'm just no good at running, probably because I just don't do it very often, so when I do I find it difficult as it's not the sort of workout I'm used to :)

Yeah I find running to be quite harsh on my knees, but there's no doubting it's one of the best ways to keep fit, and you don't need a gym membership.

I bet boxing is hard work though:cool:

My wife is good size 10 and healthy but she never goes to the gym.

If I ask her to run for a bit she starts to moan how its "not her thing" yet she never has put any effort into it. She prefers to stretch about which is not much in my book.

She isn't a Gym person but atm she wants to loose a little bit of weight...

I ran earlier this week for 45 minutes at a good pace without any problems, I was near 15 stone when I started to loose weight and atm I have just hit 14 stone nearly 3 weeks into my diet. I use to play football every day up until about 20 yrs old then did gym for a few years on and off and eventually I did some martial arts for a bit. But the 4 year gap where I did nothing I piled on the pounds so I am in the middle of getting back into shape.

My wife cant run for **** and has a hard time trying to do any real cardio exercise for a long period of time yet for me it isn't a problem, I am slower than I was but I can still keep going.

I feel better doing it, I feel healthy, motivated and in shape. I really think you must be a bit nieve if you really cannot understand why people do it.

I can understand why some people dont want to go to the gym, so what stops you from understanding why others go to the gym?

A 3 mile run shouldnt take any longer than 30mins max and thats like for people who are unfit, for someone who goes the gym that much surely you can run for 30 mins:eek:

Thats it really, if you sit on those bikes riding along and have never really tried running for most of your life it will be hard.

I would suggest using a treadmill for 10 minutes at a pace you think you could handle, if it got hard just slow it down and build on it.

It takes a bit of determination but in the end it is a lot better than sitting your butt on a bike and peddling for an hour :)

I'm trying to work my wife into using a treadmill more than using the bike, she has a similar mentality to you it might seem.

It's not that I can't run 3 miles, I just find it difficult, because I don't run very often. With running I find it hard on my knees/ankles (really damaged my ankle running once) and not very enjoyable.
