Windows 7 pre-order 32 or 64bit?

What does the pro version offer over the home version?

I just game and surf the net on my PC. with the odd bit of dvd encoding.

Main thing could be RAM limit. Home Premium has a limit of 16GB, but Pro can go to 192GB. There are other things too, but I can't be bothered finding the list.

I doubt your uses would require Professional.

The only reason I can see is if someone with a pre-built PC or notebook wants to use 7 but doesn't have full driver support form the manufacturer for 64-bit versions. I'm getting 64-bit for my own PC, but I'll be putting 32-bit on my step-dad's XPS One for that reason.

im running win7 64bit on my 2 year old hp laptop(hp dont make any drivers for 32 or 64bit for win7) yet win 7 64 bit installed a driver for everything, i didnt need to look for any(thats the first time i have installed an OS without having to install a driver)
it running great so well done microsoft
before i installed win7, i was running vista 64bit for 2 years so i see no need to stick with 32bit anymore

Just preordered Win7 Home. Quick question though. Will the 64bit version run ok for a gaming machine on 2gb RAM? I will upgrade to 4gb if i have to, but i'd rather save my money. :p

Win7 isn't as much of a resource hog as Vista right?

yes it will work fine.
I had 2Gb for ages and only upgraded to 4Gb a few months back.

Thanks. :)

I talked to a few people outside of this forum who are running the RC and they told me it's better with a minimum of 4gb. Sometimes i wish i had a free HDD and more time to test this OS out myself.

Shouldn't be a problem, although if you're playing newer games you'll benefit from having 4GB of RAM anyway so it's certainly worth considering.

What do you mean hardware acceleration?

Netbooks won't run 64bit nicely will they, their CPUs don't have full support (yet).

32bit is ancient history now that 64bit has virtually all the support of 32bit but none of the limitations.

I see the RAM advantage on a almost daily basis now, it's not uncommon to see my RAM free amount to 50% out of my 8GB.

64bit is the multitasker's OS bit of choice =)

If it's just MCE then there's no issue at all. Use an alt like MPC to play mlv files, using EVA the DXVA hardware accelerator works perfectly although if you have a dual core PC it makes no difference at all other than actually seeing cpu usage drop (no actual performance hit).
