Ford Focus Zetec. TERRIBLE.

Looks like OCUK motors will be filled with this trolling trip now that the school holidays are here.

Yes, because disliking a Ford makes me, a 22 year old driving a company hire car, a school kid troll doesn't it.

Edit: ninjad for taking too long to post

It's not tripe to say that the Focus was less enjoyable for me to drive than the Astra. I literally did not feel as if I had full control of the car because of how unresponsive it was and how little contact there was with its internal workings.

What kind of things does your company let you drive?

I don't really know. I only used it yesterday because I had a training course on another company site. We hire all our cars through Avis. I think I saw a couple of other Fords, a Vauxhall and a Toyota in the hire car area, but didn't really pay attention to them. One of the other people on the course had been given a Micra which he complained bitterly about. :p

tbh I think that people just love to hate Vauxhalls because they are not bad cars, I think you gotta just get used to the focus ;)

Bring back the days of the MK2 Astra GTE and the Nova GSI / GTE both far better cars then their Ford couterparts. The Mk3 Astra was an abortion, the MK4 was significantly better and was a direct comparison to the Focus of the same era.

Drive an Astra GTE from 1988 and then lets see how people describe its lack of 'feel'

Unless your Astra is a GTE, then your talking complete and utter tripe, the Focus, even an Daewoo nexia is a better car in everyway.

GTE was awesome, currently weighing up getting a 84 Astra GTE, good fun, but never gonna be as good as my Focus ST.

You drive a Mk3 Astra. You have NO contact with its internal workings - the Mk3 Astra doesn't have conventional steering or suspension. Instead it has marshmellows for suspension and instead of a steering rack there is a box containing custard. The steering wheel is connected to a whisk, when you turn the wheel the centrifugal force of the custard spinning turns the wheels.

Mk3 Astra, probably the worst car ever made by Vauxhall which from a company like Vauxhall which hasn't made a good car without outside help for years, is pretty bad.

Only comment I have about the Focus is the one (mk 1) I test drove a few years ago was awful. It skipped about all over the place at speed; just wouldn't hold a straight line. I just put it down to being a bad example. Pretty poor for a new car when you're trying to sell them.

I dunno, my mate had one a while back, hire car off work like, i never drove it but it certainly wasn't sluggish. And it gripped and broke well.
He was throwing it into corners at stupid speed and it just somehow went round.

I told you it isn't a mk anything.

It must have been broken then. My 10 year old Mk1 is smooth, comfortable and responsive for a family hatchback. Im hoping things will be even better once I replace the front Wanli tyres with the same Continentals that I have on the back.

granted i dont have the widest of experiances on the road with regards to different cars, but the 1.6 09 focus i drove was absolutely shocking. no feedback from the steering or the clutch, and i found myself guessing the biting point rather than feeling for it. not a bad place to be in, but definately NOT the car id choose to buy.
