Ford Focus Zetec. TERRIBLE.

What? It doesn't have the letters M or K anywhere on it or anywhere in the documentation. It does have the letters LS on the side if that helps.

"MK" is a shortening of the word "Mark". Marks are used to describe the generation of the vehicle. Hence, i drive a 10 year old Mark 1 Focus. The current Focus is the second generation, so its a Mark 2.

Mark 1 Astra
Mark 2
Mark 3
Mark 4
Mark 5

I've owned and driven a Focus 2ltr Zetec, a Pug 206GTi 180 and an 06 Subbie and still utterly rate the Focus. It's a brilliant car that handles stunningly well for a front wheel drive car and easily as comparible to the 206. The Subbie handled better but it was built like crap compared to the other two.

I would have another Focus in a moment.

Well judging by those pics, mine would be a mk3 then.

I have no idea what Fox is talking about though with the custard steering rack. Maybe that improves with age like a fine wine? Who knows? As for having no contact with the engine... have you ever actually driven one? Or did I somehow end up with the only mk3 astra where you can feel the engine revs?

Truthfully, the Mk3 Astra is the best car I have ever driven. :p

To the OP, are you sure this isn’t just a new car thing? From personal experience, all the company cars I have driven and recently a hire car, have all felt pretty much the way you have described, whereas the old banger I had felt miles better (to me of course) – but that could also have something to do with the fact I had driven it for years and knew the car well.

Scort.

My company car is a 09 1.6 TDCi Focus and its fantastic, not the best chairs in the world but it handles well and drives well and built loads better than my VXR.

I really like old cars. They are my "thing". Even I am forced to acknowledge that the Mk3 Astra was pretty rubbish. The GSi was good fun, but other than that....

1.6 Focus probably is quite slow.

My wife and I have recently got a new 1.6 Focus, the Climate 1.6 to be exact and tbh its a lovely car. It nips along quite nicely and handles very well. I certainly wouldn't call it slow but there are certainly much faster cars out there, if that makes sense. We have only covered about 500 miles (From Brand New) but it is 'feeling' quicker every 100 mile or so it does.

I have a 1.8 year old focus and your talking a bit of sense but mostly tripe.

To be fair it is a bit sluggish off the mark but once you hit 3000rpm + it really isnt sluggish. It does roll a bit in the corners and i missed slinging my old corsa into corners but when driven sensibly it is a perfectly good (and better than an astra) car.

Considering it's probably the best selling car in its class then it seems you make be mistaken.

Very likely. But I still prefer the Astra. After enduring 7 hours of driving the Zetec, sitting behind the wheel of that Astra and actually being able to feel the engine move was heavenly. I find it difficult to comprehend how people can drive every day without that tactile feedback.
