*** Dell UltraSharp 2209WA 22" Widescreen Monitor @ £199.97 ***

I bought one of the recently from OCuK. Can't fault it at all. Am very surprised how good the built quality of the unit is too.

I cant drop down to any other compatable (16:10) resolution, it just stays on 1680x1050.

but if my graphics card (old geforce 5700) supports 1680x1050, shouldnt it support lower 16:10 resolutions aswell?

I've got a bad feeling in my wallet about this.. :D

Awesome, can't wait! Will it be an OcUK "own brand" type thing, or is it branded? Promise I won't ask any more questions :D

It will be branded :)

I also have a few questions, not sure if I should delay and wait for this or get the dell.

What panel is this 24"? Price? and ETA?

Thanks for any help :)

It's an LG Philips LM240WU4 panel (the same panel as in the HP LP2475w).

Price is one of the things we're waiting for as I'd rather put this on when we've got a decent discount rather than just a standard price.

Stock is the other unknown but as soon as I have more details then I will let you know.

Some pics. No dead pixels notices. Picture quality is amazing, and I've not even played with the settings. Just wondering why I didn't pick up a similar 24" now. Also considering the soundbar as I'm short of space and have far too many cables around.

Nice pics hopefully will get one next week :D

am I right in thinking that a newish card, such as this http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-093-OK&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat= , would support 16:10 monitor resolutions?

Most cards from the last 2 years should be able handle all desktop resolutions supported by the monitor being used. As such, the one you picked out will be fine. I'm not sure if it's the best for the price range but it will do what you want.

With such an old graphics card, I'm guessing you don't really use that particular rig for gaming right? :)

I have played a few open source fps with the geforce 5700 card on low settings, but even then at particularly graphics intensive times there was screen slowdown.

My main concern is really video. This old 5700 doesnt seem to be handling video well at the monitors native 1680x1050 resolution (and I cant change the res). Im getting some juddery motion, so I'll have to upgrade to sort that out, and I think I might aswell get a half decent graphics card just incase I want to do some gaming in the future.

Buttons on the front and not the sides is always a winner.

I had a 17" Dell on my works PC, I told them it hurt my eyes and they bought me a 24" 2407WFP and it rocks! card readers, usb and front buttons. Only thing I haven't figured is how to get it home. :o)

Dell do turn out good monitors tho, pitty the rest of their stuff generally sucks.

Sounds fantastic Slackworth; if this somehow magically hits the £300 price point it will sell faster than a naughty video of Cheryl Cole!!!

I've been speaking to certain people today :) We could currently sell at £299.99 ex. VAT but inc VAT is probably going to be an issue. It's got the same panel as the HP which is around £100 more so they don't really need to reduce the price as it is.

It lacks the extra inputs of the HP and the only other thing is it's a silver bezel not black.

I'd be interested to here people's thoughts over the weekend.

At that price, it might still be worth it. At least we'll have a bit more choice.

We've got to buy a volume though to hit a price point so if only one customer is going to purchasing then it's not really a viable option (obviously we could buy at standard list but it's not really that much cheaper than the HP then).

I'm going to spend more time on the telephone beating the price down on Monday but already spent the whole of the week on it so probably won't be much more movement.

Against the HP it's certainly good value for those who just want the IPS panel without all the extras but obviously the price has got to be right.

What exactly does it lack compared to the HP? I'd probably buy one as long as it had HDMI and an extra dvi port. Maybe an adjustable stand.

A monitor with the same panel as the HP, less inputs and £300 excl. VAT? - that sounds great. I'm sure for people who just want to connect their desktop to the monitor (ie most people) the inputs will be fine. And for that price a lot of people will happy to pay the extra over a TN panel due to the startling difference in image quality and viewing angles.

I very much look forward to this turning up for sale - personally I might have to pick one up for a sweet dual screen setup. Great work Slackworth, I wait with baited breath for the big reveal (and final price).

In the meantime, this dell 2209WA is awesome (i'm on my sister's PC now and admiring this wonderful screen).
