Personalised text tones - which phone allows them?

I saw a thread on here discussing what people had as their personalised text tones. At the moment I have recordings which Ive made with the voice recorder on my phone set as text tones. Personalised ones for 'important' people and a default one which is my niece announcing I have a text. Yes, sad I know ;)

Thing is I want to upgrade my phone but have no idea what phones allow this feature. Last time I tried several phones and ended up giving up and getting a new version of the Motorola I already had.

Can anyone tell me which phones support personalised text tones from a recording. They appear to be .amr files if that makes a difference

Thanks :)

I know on the iphone you can SSH into the iphone and replace an existing message tone with a custom. has to be named the same as the existing tone though.

Is this seriously the case now that phones wont let you have custom text beeps? The 3310 let you do that! Surely manufacturers arent going backwards?

I think by personalised he means a different tone for each contact. I don't know of many phones that allow that feature, be they past or present phones.

The iPhone certainly won't allow that.

I thought the N96 would only allow personalised ring tone, but not text? Unless you're talking about some 3rd party software, in which case you need to mention that!

Any Nokia N- or E-Series phone will let you set a personalised message tone. However, you can't give each contact a seperate message tone without third party software.

thats right, but you can assign tones to contact groups on an N series at least, so if two he only requires a handful of different tones then that is probably the answer.

Blackberrys will do it:)

All Sony Ericsson phones (I have used) allow both changing ring/text tones to a custom one and seperate ring tones for seperate people.

I used to have the "move it, move it" song as a ringtone and "smile and wave boys, smile and wave" as my text tone (madagascar).:D :o

It allows it as is... Go into profiles then message alert tone i think, gives a list of all the files i could change it to, including mp4 videos lol

m suprised this is not something that EVERY phone does now?!

He wants a different message tone for each contact, not just a custom one for them all.

Its a motorola I have just now and it allows me to use voice recordings Ive made as text tones. Im really amazed all phones dont have this now but its really something I want in my new phone. Sad I know lol But I love hearing my niece announce my text messages :)

I have a default one saying 'Auntie Sandra youve got a message' but personalised ones for my brother and my mum saying 'Auntie sandra youve got a message from my dad/gran' and my OH has recorded his own one too - but we wont go into that selection lol

Thats the facility Im looking for - I cant believe my motorola V8 is the only one who does it
