Spec me a modern space/sci-fi action movie

As above really, something in the vein of Serenity, I can't think of any other modern sci-fi action movie, probably because they're bloomin' expensive to make.

I'm not in the mood for thinky sci-fi in the vein of 2001,not that I don't like them, I'm just not in the right mood for them).
 
No idea if it would count, and the movie wasn't THAT awesome but "Equilibrium"? Kind of enjoyed it when it came out even if it is dated now

I know it's not modern (not by a loooong shot) but Bladerunner is recommended if you haven't seen it before, specifically the BluRay version. It looks absolutely stunning.
 
Thanks for the suggestions so far, not that it fits the bill but I have seen and enjoyed Equilibrium.

And yes I've seen Blade Runner and have the 'proper' US Blu-ray to boot :p

I'll look into Outlander.
 
If you don't mind cg, theres final fantasy advent children, appleseed (and sequal ex machina) and vexille. They should fit the sci fi quite nicely.

As to films - youve got the obvious like iron man and transformers obviously.
But you know what, I can't really think of anything else other than anime :o
 
You know I might watch Serenity again instead :D

I've been searching all day and I can't really think of any good, modern space-battle/action/adventure movies in the vein of Serenity. Go back far enough and you have the likes of Star Wars, but that's about it.
