Asus P5Q series + memory compatibilites

Ok well,

Will 8gb work then on the p5q series with dual channel?

The memory compatibility list doesn't all modules

I found the P5Q Deluxe QVL list for memory a pain to find on the net, so if you give me the exact model number/name of the kit and the manufacturer I'll look it up in the User's manual for you ;).

I'd assume it will be the same for most, if not all P5Q boards.

Surely 4x 1GB sticks are "old tech" now, as if you wanted 4GB you'd go for 2x 2GB, to allow scope to go to 8GB.

Don't some mobo's have problems with 4 DIMMs?

That's what I did in the end. Couldn't solve the problem so got rid of it and got 2x2GB sticks of Corsair, works fine.

It was an odd issue because with the four sticks installed, the BIOS would recognise random amounts of RAM. Sometimes it would say '768MB OK', sometimes it would even say '0MB OK'. It seemed a bit like a BIOS bug to me.

Did you try BIOS updates?

Using EZ Flash in very easy on the P5Q Series, and it has a Dual BIOS chip and a CrashFree BIOS in case you mess it up.

OK so what 8gb kit avaliable on Ocuk will work with P5q series?

There was only one newer BIOS, and the only change listed was an update to the Express Gate feature, so I didn't bother. Flashing BIOSes makes me nervous :p

It is a serious pain.

Looking through my manual, it says that the OCZ 4GB Platinum Revision is compatible as 2 sets of dual channel (to give a total of 8GB,) although on OCUK I could only find the Gold Edition and the Titanium Edition, the Platinum edition is only stocked as a 2GB kit (2x 1GB). They might work, but I can't guarantee it. The manual is fairly old aswell, it's from around the time the mobo was released.
d

There are hardly any 4GB kits at all in the QVL.
