Advice need on tyres

Also, other places has the tyre size (for the SR160) as 185/50/16.

EDIT: ok, i'm fairly sure the tyre size you're after, if you have the 16 inch rims, will be 185/50/16 - in which the best tyres will be Toyo Proxes T1-R's at £82 per corner fitted.

Cheers,

so according to that, you could get 185/55/15 tyres on there with a -1.02% cahnge to the rolling radius which would be ever so negligable to your speedometer. This allows a much larger range of tyres:

Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD2 185/55 R15 V (82) £81.64

Continental Premium Contact 2 185/55 R15 H (82) £68.79

The Goodyears are the best tyre you can get for that size and the same price as the also good tyres in the previous size, or you can even save £10 and get the Premiums over the Eco's from Conti.

Best thing i can suggest now though, is tell them you will "think about the tyres", get home check your tyre sizes and look on the internet.

You can easily tell the tyre size as its printed on the side of the tyres much like we have been quoting you ie 175/60/15 etc

Thanks again for your replies, I've never really ventured into Motors before, what a cracking bunch of people! :D

I've rung Black Circle, they can do me the great deal saving us around £90, and my very local garage that I've been to can fit them as well.

I've now rung the place where it's being serviced and am waiting a call back on tyre make and size of the tyre to clear up any confusion.

The force is weak in this one, leave the troll :p

I can't be bothered any more :p There's no point.

As for the original question, I bet even if he did pay the extra for the 'sporty' tyres, he'd still end up with Ling Longs or something equally as crap. I can't believe the rubbish some garages try to talk. Find out the size, head over to blackcircles etc and you'll save a packet and get something decent.

Personally I'd have no issues with sticking some Marshal KH35 on a Micra, £50 a corner (185/50/16) from mytyres.

Did you miss the bit where he said "£20 fitted" ?

Good job everybody replaces all 4 tyres reguardless of wear when we buy a car as we don't know the history of them.

Argument's been done to death mate, see the million and one other. Regardless of cost, replacing consumables with second hand parts is a false economy and a waste of time. You wouldn't use second hand pads/shoes and discs so why use second hand tyres.

Personally I don't give a toss what people do, I do however feel sorry for any chump that rear ends me and has Ling Longs as I WILL hit them with my keyboard, or perhaps write rude things about them on the internet.

OK I've had a phonecall back and it seems that for that particular car there isn't much choice available...

The size is, 185/50/R16 81H.

That's a bit of gobbldygook to me but apparently Continental tires are the best (and the only exact) tyres to go with it...Black Circles give me a price of £97.65 per tyre for a set of fronts...not cheap whichever way you look at it!

Think I'll ring the garage and try and bring their price down, if they won't then Black Circles it is!

Thanks very much for all the help and advice that everyone has offered, from recommending other places, to size ratings, and clarifying the situation regarding not having them changed straight away, your posts have been invaluable, especially as it's a subject I have no knowledge of!

Many many thanks one and all! :D:D:D

How about you just buy a good tyre thats cheaper than the continental? That's a lot of money for a Micra tyre.

Camskill has the Toyo T1R at approx £60, and the Kumho KH11 at £44. Add no £10-£20 for delivery and fitting and you're doing a bit better than the Continentals.
