recommendation on tyre make please

depends on your budget and driving style.

I have Toyo Proxes T1R's on my car which are quite good, excellent grip in both wet and dry, but you may also look at the Falken FK452's as a decent budget tyre, if you're not that bothered about cornering hard etc and just want a tyre for driving round town etc, pretty much any premium brand would be fine, just stay clear of cheap and nasty ling longs or anything like it, remember, if it's cheap, it's probably cheap for a reason ;)

You actually like T1R? Worst tyre I have ever had on a car.

Falken are quite good, depends on your budget and what you want from the tyre, all out grip, super long life or a good all rounder.

I genuinly cannot fault them, and that's coming from Goodyear eagle f1 gsd3's, the grip is great (and I love throwing my car into corners), wet weather grip is also good.

I'd be shocked if he could rate the T1R's as "bad", unless he's only been running really highend stuff, even then the toyos favor quite well.

I had T1S on other cars and they were fine although worn out very fast. I heard that T1R were meant to last longer and grip even better.

Maybe the problem was the car I put them on, it was a UK Integra Type R, Integra's like a tyre with a stiff side wall. Basically to make them wear better they made the tread deeper, because they are so soft when you turn into a corner you can feel the tread flexing and it makes a stiff sprung car appear to wallow. It really ruined the entire feel of the car and made it feel unsafe. I have seen people wreck a set of T1R's in one track day due to the tread moving to the sides and ending up all out of shape.

These days we have a track Integra Si running Toyo R888, an amazing tyre but they won't last long at all.

So basically you choose the wrong tyre for the car rather than the tyre being hopeless. Isn't there a Bridgestone tyre you're supposed to use for the car?

It's not my fault that Toyo made a soft tyre with such a deep tread that would cause awful handling. I wouldn't even want to try the T1R on any other car after my experience and from other reports I have seen.

The Integra had Yoko A539 on when I bought it and they were fine, I also ran Firestone Firehawk SZ80 without problem.

The standard tyre is Bridgestone RE010 which has a very stiff side wall but isn't the only tyre you can use, they are getting rare now and I believe people are using Hankook RS2's these days as a good alternative.
