Hi all,

I recently water cooled a Sapphire 4870x2 and the temps are superb. The thing is I've put Crysis on and it feels a bit sluggish. The settings are on all very high and 2 AA at 1920x1200.

Am I trying to push the card too much with these settings? I tend to have objects loading in the distance too. Just very disappointed and I know its optimised for Nvidia but that was 2 years ago.

I've overcloked my core i7 920 to 3.4 but would taking cpu higher give me much better performance in Crysis?

Currently running Crysis on 1.2 Patch and I have Vista 64.

yes I think perhaps you are expecting a little too much from it, in the past my 4870 x2/e8500 at 1680 vhigh no aa 'felt sluggish' to me.

My 4870X2 was fine even with 2 or maybe 4 AA turned on. Granted any higher and it ran too laggy. Mine isn't watercooled either though I will admit I'd have to turn the fan up considerably to keep the temps down on a game like this :D

Oh wait....ignore me, I mean on High not very high settings.:)

The X2 won't overclock too far either on air or water, most ATI high end parts are already pushed nearly to the maximum (bar the 4890 :D). What's your current FPS, since it should be able to manage 30-35 avg at least.

What about with a Voltage tuner?

I benchmarked my crysis 1.2 @ 1680 x 1050 all settings very high vista 64 sp2 pc all stock and scored min 11 fps max 18.3.System in sig. Here is the benchmark all settings on high.Running GPU benchmark 1
Results will depend on current system settings

RoEy,

I've got my 4870X2 on water. As Happy says overclocking it won't do much good. I have tried this myself. But I can play Crysis fine and I have it on high settings with 1920x1200 and no AA. FPS goes between 25-55.

I will say when I got this under water for the 1st time, I had problems and it was due to the card overheating cos I didnt connect the block properly. So I would probably check the card and the block are making good contact. :D

If you want proof of it working: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HpxuZuqnk6Q

quality of the video isnt the best but it helps :D

Temps oh the card are brilliant mate. No higher than 40 when on Crysis and thats with 920 @ 3.4 in loop.

Ok I'll just keep it to high settings and 1920x1200.

Can anyone name some games worth playing then? Played Cod 4 and 5 but want to get my teeth into something else as I need to get off Counter Strike for a bit!:D

Thanks everyone,

RoEy
