He said that on day 1 of the training course, before you are taught anything, you are handed your riot shield and told to get ready as some other officers simulate a civil unrest situation. He said that every new officer would hold the shield up too high and so the trainers would approach with rubber bricks and bounce them under the shields much like a skimming stone giving every single one of the trainee officers bruised shins and ankles for days. Made me laugh so hard when he told me that story that I hope it is true.

The Met might do it that way but it isn't the way I was trained although it is a good introduction I have to say.

Training is very realistic though and they throw bricks, missiles, petrol bombs and all sorts your way.

Tasers are listed in the Firearms act, as such they should be treated in the same way as firearms by the Police.
While I can see where it would be justified, pain compliance is a very grey area in my mind :(

FFS, what is this place?

Don't tell me that I signed up again on a military forum?

And by the way, what's so good about torturing people in compliance?

 it's not torture. go look up the definition.
Police are not meant to use them when ever they want there are strict guidelines.

Definition:
Torture: Intentional causing of somebody's experiencing agony.

Regarding tasers:

"Last week, the United Nations Committee Against Torture ruled that the Taser gun is a form of torture, and can even provoke death. The group issued the statement in response to news that Portugal has purchased Taser X-26 stun guns for its police force. Basically, the UN thinks that’s a bad idea, and a violation of the UN’S Convention against Torture."

a baton can cause death. A baton causes agony. Is that torture as well. Lets ban them as well.

And torture in the meaningful sense is repeated pain to coerce someone. I would not classify a taser as torture. It is a device to be used when everything else fails and to protect the police and public.

An officer can control the force with which he hits someone with a baton, a tasers always discharges 50,000 volts.

A baton leaves wounds and marks that can be used in a court of law against abuse and/or misuse, while a tasers can be used for hours by direct contact without leaving a single mark.

A baton rarely kills a suspect accidentaly, while 436 people (407 in the US, 28 in Canada and 1 in Australia) have died after being tassered by police; most of them unarmed and non-threatening suspects of petty crimes. 10 of the victims were teenagers under 18 and 2 were children under 10.

People are beein tasered for things as insignificant as: traffic tickets, truancy, non-compliance and arguing with officers.

Which can be used in a court of law against the police if sufficient evidence.

there's a need for them. it is not torture(it can be used as a torture device, but on it's own I and the general public would not class it as torture). Pepper spray can also kill, highly painful and yet you aren't calling for that to be banned.

Nothing more than emotional dribble.

Your posts provoke my death by being so god damn boring and wishy washy.

You're a form of torture.

Would you be happy letting police getting stabbed rather than be able to effectively protect themselves?

A vote against tasers is in favour of the criminals.

In a perfect world we wouldnt need tasers, because there is no crime but if a police report states that some police forces need them - who are you to say you know better?
