Did 100 miles in the Cotswolds today, was great fun to drive.

You could have bought a Focus ST-3 for that, a face-lift one, with 225bhp, full leather, etc, and still had a compact practical hatchback. Or, a Golf GTI that's a year old or so.

Other than the fact that I don't like it anywhere close to £17k, it's not a bad car at all.

Very good car. Best all round 'normal' hatchback there is IMO.

Hope its on a lease and you didn't pay £17k for it though....

Paid £17k cash for it so no lease. We looked at leasing it but a few years of driving old bangers meant we had saved enough to purchase outright so decided to avoid a lease scenario.

Don't like Focii, sorry all you Focus lovers. Even the flagship ones, I found the interiors to be cheap and horrible. This cabin is a nice place to be.

We also test drove some MkV GTis but petrol insurance and tax costs combined with the poorer quality interior, rattlyness and the fact that they still hold remarkable 2nd hand values nudged us towards a new MkVI.

I looked at the new Golf as a replacement for my ST3, and its much much better inside tbh, and it drove well. I was just disapointed with the trim levels on offer, the GT models looks very bland, and its not really a GT, more a highline. If they had a proper GT (not GTI) with the 170bhp derv, I'd have had one. it really does feel like a nice car inside, and im not one for interiors.

Anyway, when I looked last the list price was quite high for a car of this class.

Dangerous to give petrol and tax as reasons to justify your purchase in here. ;)

Still I like the look of it and someone has to buy new cars and take the hit so that I can buy them secind hand. Hope you have many happy miles in it. :)

I quite like it I have to say!

The TSI badge makes it look a bit.. special with the red, but a 1.4? :(

Though THE best thing is the fact there is an old polo on there with what looks like a new Audi. Imagine that being unloaded in front of your house. You'd be shocked!

Quick edit:

If you are happy with it, thats all that matters!

I can't deny the Focus is a bit cheap and plasticy inside, so is the Mondeo. The new Golf looks very good inside for a hatchback.

I'm a big fan of the MK6 Golf, they look very solid, well engineered motors. They are pricey but the Focus isn't cheap either if you're buying new.

What made you go for DSG? How much does that bump up the price by?

Nice inside, but its so godamn bland outside, and too similar to the outgoing model.I like new white on black dispay on the current VAG cars.
