Will You Buy Windows 7???

What’s just as bad as the thought of reinstalling all my programmes is making a decision whether to install the 32 bit or 64 bit version as my Intel Quad core supports 64 bit. However, I doubt if a lot of my programmes will work with 64 bit which means even more expense if I take that route.

32 bit software runs under 64 bit Windows.

Hehe, that made me chuckle. :p

Ideally you will want to install the 64-bit version. The majority of 32-bit applications will work fine under a 64-bit operating system. What sort of programmes are you referring to though?

Funnily enough I have just been trawling my software and the vast majority is supported on 64 bit. It's just the odd bits like Maxtor and Seagate Manager that's not. Not sure if Skype can be installed or not also strangely Microsoft VPC

Skype is fine on an x64 OS and there's an x64 version of Virtual PC 2007 available too.

Haven't found anything so far that hasn't run on 64 bit in case you are concerned.

I don't think Acronis TI 2009 will work which for me is pretty important as it's my number one fail safe backup solution and I couldn't consider being without it. I'm hoping there's a fix in the pipeline as it already runs on Vista 64 and W7 32 bit.

Why not consider buying Win7 pro, it has backup facilities

Thinking about getting Pro this afternoon.

Are these retail pre-orders, or OEM? I do a lot of formatting and hardware changes, and dont fancy getting stung!

Here's an interesting bit of the post, regarding a 'family pack':

Windows Team Blog said:
I know there have been some rumors going around about a “family pack” for Windows 7. We have heard a lot of feedback from beta testers and enthusiasts over the last 3 years that we need a better solution for homes with multiple PCs. I’m happy to confirm that we will indeed be offering a family pack of Windows 7 Home Premium (in select markets) which will allow installation on up to 3 PCs. As I’ve said before, stay tuned to our blog for more information on this and any other potential offers.

I knew I read somewhere a long time ago about a 3 pc install feature in the next Windows!

Good Morning Chaps,

This question may have been posed before but I thought I'd like to clarify it.

At present, we can only buy 2 versions of windows. Correct me if I'm wrong but are the both of them 32 bits? Being the Home premium and the professional version. Should I wait till the 64 bit comes out? Or does the current versions available for sale support both 32 or 64?

Apologies if these are stupid questions. I'm just not sure about it.

Kind Regards,
Sam

He means versions, not copies.

As in, Home Prem and Hoem Pro. The others are not available for preorder.
