Interesting, how do you think gary glitter got caught though? I do find it funny that they are up in arms about this but if that laptop was full of child images then those techies would be doing the world a favour for finding out about it?

Im just glad I know enough about computers to never have to deal with places like that

If a customer brings a PC in for repair and the fault was traced to a corrupt image file in a folder marked 'private', would the customer be pleased or not pleased?

However I question the truth of the Sky story. Surely a keylogger type of program that accesses the webcam would be pretty obvious to a PC repair person? I mean they'd run a malware / virus checker as part of the diagnostic process... wouldn't they?

And the bosses who own and run these repair outlets will say, what me gov, i know nothing gov, honest.

We all know it goes on, which is why we wouldn't let our computers anywhere near these gits.

My family love me because i can fix their computers without resorting to these crooks. Shame on them, they should love me for who i am.

If the memory just needed reseating, why would they run a malware scan?

I don't know. But the repair shop wouldn't know that was all that needed doing. It just seems a very obvious thing to do. I wonder if any of the other repair shops rang Sky back and said, We've found your problem. The memory needed reseating and there was some kind of keylogger installed...

You have to realise this is only a minority of people, as has been said, every trade has their bad eggs. Do you not let builders or plumbers come and do work on your house and trust them not to be cowboys? You can't tarnish everyone with the same brush.

I'm sure sky have the knowledge (or money) to get a bespoke keylogger created that won't set off malware/AV scanners.

There are plenty of keloggers out there that are pretty easy to modify if you know what you are doing.

As for the original story, meh, it was obviously going to happen, as moremoney said it's human nature, how many friends do you know that will go through your phone in search of things (loads probably). Just be glad it's not women doing the repairs, all that gossip, wow!
