Student Bank Accounts

And that you have to pay your student loan into it.

No you dont, if they say you do just tell them its set up with another current account and you dont want to change it as it involves reapplying then obviously make sure you put some money in from "somewhere".

OK.... Do NOT listen to this guy!
Most banks will only offer you a student account on the basis that you only have 1 student account, not multiple

They don’t even ask, Abbey asked if I had any other current accounts and I said yes as well as an ISA, I then asked if I should move everything over to abbey to improve my chances of getting accepted for the student overdraft and an abbey zero credit card (which is a pretty good card if you go abroad), and they said not to bother!

Halifax never even asked that, they just gave it me.

I don’t see how doing this is any better or worse than blowing all of a Student overdraft as a lot of people do, the money is always available to move back into the accounts, all that is happening is I am making free money..

I don’t for a second condone blowing all of an overdraft on rubbish, but if I can raise money and use it to make more money then why wouldn’t I? It’s the system that’s at fault here, the whole 1 student account rule is an urban myth!

Halifax have the biggest overdrafts going. :) But I am with HSBC, and their over draft has done me fine.

See ive tried to apply for a 2nd student account online, sent all the paper work away and had them come back to say i cant have another student account. So im guessing for those who have opened a 2nd/3rd account its best to just go in personally? what paper work they want off you?

Just tryed to apply for a halifax student account online, filled out the 7 pags of steps but ended up saying

"We cannot open you a Student account at this time"

Recon this is just because its a bit early to get your student accounts or didn't meet a criteria ?

Go into a branch to open the account.

Regarding paperwork go on your student intranet and find one of them forms that you can get that say your at uni till whenever doing whatever that has to be stamped by your faculty, take one of them with you, obviously get it stamped.

I went in today and was refused a student account because of poor credit.

Recon if i tryed to apply at my current bank i would have a better chance because of previous history for over 5 years ?

Well i have never been in a situation where i have been refused on the basis of poor credit, i do know however a lot of people end up with no credit rating not because they have done anything wrong but because nobody has ever changed it.

I suggest you take this over to moneysavingexpert.com as you will recieve more specific advice on there regarding credit ratings.
