A Friend of mine just bough a new car a brand new one and he is not happy with it. He Says it wont go up hills very well it struggles. He is wondering does he have a cooling off period or is he stuck with it?

If there's no finance I doubt he'll have a cooling off period.

What car is it, and did he not test drive it before buying it?

The Car is on a Finance and the car is a

Suzi Alto and he did test drive it in the town but was not allowed to go out where he lives in the Country Side with hills

He'll need to check the small print for the finance as there'll be a cooling off period for that.

That might just get him out the finance deal however and not the car. Anyone should be able to get an idea for a car's capabilities by driving it - this sounds pretty daft to me

Reason for 2 thread is i posted one in general discussion and they saw a motor thread so I posted in there and the other most of got moved in the same time sorry. Please close other thread and keep this one..

So if it on finance where does he stand? How would he get his old car back etc?

ring the dealer? getting a mate to post on a forum isn't going to help much. execpt maybe get some abuse for buying a naff 'car'

He'll have to read the terms & conditions of the finance deal and go from there. How old is the Alto?

Parkers reckons it's a 67hp three cylinder engine. Of course it's not going to go up hills very well.

I get the feeling the only thing he'll be able to do is sell the car (depending on the finance arrangement, whether its secured on the car or a normal loan etc) at a big loss and buy something decent.

I really dont see how he didnt realise it was underpowered from driving it normally though

If he signed the paperwork in the dealer's showroom there's no cooling off period for the finance, especially not after having had the car for 3 days!

I'm sorry but your mate needs to learn how to drive. My 55bhp Escort is considerably heavier than an Alto and had enough shove to get up a hill. He needs to learn how to drop a gear and boot it. Having said that I'm a bit concerned that your mate couldn't work out something with 3 cylinders and <70bhp is going to be slow.

He said when he drove it it felt nice and was quite quick where he was driving this made him though it be ok on the hills. When he told me what he got I knew without driving the car it wont handle the hills.

I guess he in a big mess then

I've just found out that our Ibiza is 69hp and that goes up hills fine. It just requires dropping a gear and booting it.

Do you know Winnit Pass in Hope Valley? He said he has to go up in first gear and rev to about number 5 at 15 mph and cant get up in 2nd at all..

Ah well sound like a loss then not my problme ha ha
