Will You Buy Windows 7???

Very, very, very quick question.

Without naming anything at all, do we know if the cheap pre-orders are currently still available anywhere? As I say, don't name names, I just need to know if there is.

Ta :).
I can't find Home Premium in stock at the original pre-order price anywhere now - however, Professional is still available and, given that the offer price is only a tenner more than the "second stage" price for HP, it might make sense to snap it up while you still can.

I've found one place where it's still available. Never heard of the shop, but it looks legit enough.

Well my order for the £49 Home Premium was cancelled so now I guess I won't be purchasing Windows 7 in the near future. I was willing to give it a shot for the original price but I can deal with using Vista for a bit longer if the alternative is to spend nearly double on the upgrade.

or order it for £70 now. Not sure how that is double or an unreasonable price.

Becase I don't think it's worth £80 (not £70) over using Vista a bit longer. I like it, but not that much.

The only reason I pre-ordered Windows 7 is because I'm sure I will build a new system in Windows 7 life span and since I only have an OEM license of Windows Vista, I will need to purchase a new operating system anyway.

I have been running Windows 7 a long side Windows Vista for a while now and there truly is very little Windows 7 offers over Windows Vista. I have a very hard time telling the difference between the two. There are a few little things that I like, for example, when setting up the system and installing your drivers, there are fewer reboots you have to do. Aero is still enabled when running a game, which means when I switch to the desktop from the game, it's slightly nicer to use. Also, the fact that the taskbar puts everything into groups, which is a nice little addition.

Other than the select few things I have mentioned though, for me, Windows 7 is an extremely small upgrade from Windows Vista.

Exactly the same with me, although I don't see myself getting a new computer anytime soon, I will be upgrading eventually and I certainly don't want to pay full retail price in 6-months to a years time.

Skype is fine on an x64 OS and there's an x64 version of Virtual PC 2007 available too.

You need to have a processor installed with virtualisation built in for Virtual PC to work in W7. Which is annoying as my work pc does not support this, home one does. I will stick with Vista at work and might get W7 pro later on for home.

Why was it cancelled

Probably because they had more orders then they have pre allocated stock. I'm sure there will be more disappointed people yet.

in which case they should an automated service that stops that from happening ... i wouldn't be happy if they tried shafting me on that one

Nice find. Ordered my 2nd copy! Best to be safe than sorry!!

I like the way they worded it as though they'd "run out" but still had some at the higher price. It's a strange scheme Microsoft are running since it has a great potential to anger more people than it appeases.
