Advice for Cable Management

Hi Guys,

I am looking to recess (channeled into the wall and plastered over) my cables from my wall mounted Panasonic Plasma and want to know if you can recommend a good cable management solution?

I have looked around the net for conduit that can cope with the ammount of cabling that i will need to use and everything seems to be too narrow. I'm also quite keen on keeping the entry and exit points nice and tidy so would like something that has fittings to finish the conduit off.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

It doesn't need to be flexible just big enough for a scart lead to go through plus various other power and connector cables?

I assumed there would be a manfacturer that would specialise in that sort of thing.

Normally you'd use cut cable and make off the ends once its seated in the wall, hence why you don't normally use large size conduit.

It does exist though, look at electrical wholesalers.

What cables do you need to fit ?

As for a finish a Double-Gang-Brush-Faceplate

I used a single one for my HDMI lead in the ceiling for PJ install

At the moment its a power cable for my TV, a scart lead for my DVD player, a DVI cable for my Mac Mini HTPC, component cable for my Wii and a HDMI for my Sky HD.

I'm just worried that i will run out of space once its all finished and repainted and its obviously something you don't wnat to do more than once.

I think the missus would have my family jewels in a jar if i had to re-do it.

EDIT: Forgot to say thanks for the link Easyrider, that looks perfect.

Running cable thur the walls is easy, and you don't need conduit. Tho you guys run 220 right? Here in the states its 110.

I normally open up an existing outlet, run my power line from that to the back area of where the TV will be mounted. Notice you don't see any wires handing from my Hyperspin set up, every thing is ran thur the walls. you want as much space running your low voltage lines away from power lines as possible, it cause's slight interference.

So you will need to run two separate lines, one for power one for cables. Try and remember that you are installing something that will last 10 plus years. So do it right the first time, and think ahead, IE if you plan on running HDMI put it on now, no need to do it twice.

My new house didn't have a smart box installed, so i ran over 3,000 feet of cat 6, 2 runs to every room, 6 to the game room, and 10 in the computer room. that way in the future if I needed 2 computers for what ever reason in any bed room, I had it there already.

also invest in some Fish tape, its a little metal rod that helps you guide wires thur the walls.

hope this helps

is it for a partition wall or brick?
at the moment im building my new partition wall and plan on using 100x50 conduit and have 2 35mm back boxes modified which i'll then face with those double gang brush plates. This should then allow me to feed any additional cables if needed.
if its a brick wall then that would be difficult to cut a channel big enough to hold the larger sizes of conduit

Thanks for the advice guys.

Torch [P4] Its a Brick wall. I'm not afraid of digging out the angle grinder to cut the channel but i want to be sure that i can add and remove cables easily when needed. I'm seriously thinking about moving power sockets too. Make the job as complete as i can i one project.
