Hi all.

I'm about to contact orange and enquire about an upgrade, probably to a Hero. I've heard that diffrent departments can give you different deals, for instance an Orange shop might have different criteria than a call-centre person.

Any advice on the best way to get a good deal? I've been an oange customer for about 4 years straight. I've thought about asking fo my PAC code and going from there, but my partner just got a stunning deal via the upgrade line without having to resort to strongarm tactics.

Cheers.

What sort of deal did your partner get with upgrades? :)

Didnt really make any effort to keep me, so I converted to a PAYG and then ordered from Orange elsewhere to get a better deal than Orange themselves could give me. Which is a bit confusing.

I recently managed to get a Nokia 6700, 200 xnet mins, unlimited texts and 500MB data allowance for £15 a month. That was going from an average monthly bill of £32.

I called retentions straight away, call 150 from your phone and choose the 'thinking of leaving orange option'

Can Orange source other phones than the ones on their site?

My contract is coming up for renewal soon and I'm after a Nokia N79, but Orange don't offer it on their website.

I've seen 3 party companies offering it (Phones4U etc) but would prefer to go direct to Orange as I've been with them nearly 10yrs.

Just ring them up and select the thinking about leaving orange option on the call menu, that will normally get you through to retentions. If your in doubt or the operator seems a bit obtuse ask if your speaking to retentions. Say your thinking about leaving because you want an Iphone and then say that the HTC Hero caught your eye and you wanted to see if they could offer you any sort of deals on this to change your mind. If the operator seems unhelpful/overly pushy or things aren't going well just say you'll have a think about it and call back later, different operators are vastly more/less generous. For the negotiation bit just have a think about what you want from the deal and try and stick to it, be polite but keep re-iterating the bits of the deal they offer you that your not happy with untill they change them. You should get a pretty good of idea when they run out of things to offer you.

Told them I was leaving at the end of my contract, and went from £35 a month down to £15 a month for unlimited texts and any network minutes and a new phone... It's well worth giving them a shout and playing the game a bit.

I would firstly get a good deal off them then after a few days cancel the contract, they would then go further and offer a better deal than what you have already.

I was a pretty good customer in my first 18 months that they gave me a discount for my plan..so if u go over ur minutes and texts previously they might be quite generous in their upgrade!
