Next time just sing Land of Hope & Glory down the phone repeatedly until you here an Englishman.

Apologies if this is meant as humour, i don't know you well enough to work it out. If it isn't frankly i'd be inclined to wonder if you had mental health issues or else i'd really not want to know you. For what it's worth if any of my staff answerered the phone to someone singing anything they'd be well within their role to disconnect the call.

Ok rant over, i'm off for a beer. Intelligent and rational debate is one thing. . . .

I hate it when I get an english person on the phone, come on people is it to much to ask that you know how to spell Llanelli, Clydach, Castell Nedd!!!!! :p

I can do all of those ;) Customers are always surprised when someone without any particular accent can pronounce things like Ystalyfera, Cefn-Bryn-Brain and Llanbedr Pont Steffan :D

I see, I haven't bothered to wade through that Kinder thread yet. Worth a read?

Where is this "Kinder" thread? Section? Link?

I hate call centres where you can't understand what they are saying. They are meant to be helping people FFS!!!

It's not because they're foreign I don't wanna talk to them, infact an american call centre would possibly be better as most of the time you could understand them...

This is GD....

Also, expressing right wing or conservative views doesn't necessarily make you racist, less intelligent or less well informed. I've had so many arguments surrounding this with students from good universities and it saddens me that many, though not all by any means, believe that liberal or left wing views equate to intelligence and learning.

Personally, I would not request to speak to an English person, I would tell the person to speak more clearly in a polite manner, if this didn't happen after a few times I'd just call back and try again. However, it is in one's statutory rights as a consumer to understand what is being said especially when it concerns a matter as important as a bank account. It is not, as has not been suggested or implied here, in one's statutory rights to insult/demean another: this wasn't anyone's intention. To interpret it so is plausible, however the people here are good folk and not racists from what I've seen in the years that I have been a member.

wow

Just for a minute then i thought i'd been transported back in time and wasn't living in the 21st century.

Oversees call centres annoy me intensely. Mainly because of the ammunication barrier, but also although i understand why firm's do it (profit) i'm still pig headed enough to want to keep employment in the uk.

Some of the comments here are well past good taste and clearly wrong. Yes racism is wrong. It's little wonder the Bnp is thriving in this country.

You will see that this place breeds racist idiots

What i dont understand is why people are complaining about call centres not being able to speak english.

what about the call centre where people can actually speak english whether foreign or not, having to deal with people that cannot speak proper english and pronounce words properly or speaking in urban slang.

What rubbish.

For what it's worth, there is nothing wrong asking to be transferred if you cannot understand somebody. If you simply don't like the accent because they sound foreign or northern, that's just rather weird. I have asked to be transferred only once when I was struggling to effectively communicate with someone.

The real bitch of it is that the same people would complain if the companies using these call centres put their prices up as a result of using British labour.

i think you would rather have a indian squeaky voice speaking to you. than a george adenugo from phone jacker phoning you..

be thankful you havent got an african on the other line.

they have worked out the psychology of this trust. why do you think most call centres are located up north of england, because southerners are aggresive grumpy gits
