*** Dell UltraSharp 2209WA 22" Widescreen Monitor @ £199.97 ***

A monitor with the same panel as the HP, less inputs and £300 excl. VAT? - that sounds great. I'm sure for people who just want to connect their desktop to the monitor (ie most people) the inputs will be fine. And for that price a lot of people will happy to pay the extra over a TN panel due to the startling difference in image quality and viewing angles.

I very much look forward to this turning up for sale - personally I might have to pick one up for a sweet dual screen setup. Great work Slackworth, I wait with baited breath for the big reveal (and final price).

In the meantime, this dell 2209WA is awesome (i'm on my sister's PC now and admiring this wonderful screen).

Hehe cmndr_andi :D

I'm so sorry i could go for the HP coz of my finance issues i have with my mom:(

But i think this DELL will be good replacement at a price to quality ratio?

I mean 200 for IPS...is better than 24 TN right??????:D

It would be touch and go for me; without the HDMI input I couldn't plug my PS3 in without having to switch round cables, so would probably be better off getting the Dell and a cheap 32" TV.

It's the sort of thing that, were it in stock, I'd consider buying against the Dell depending on how flush I was feeling, but I don't want to tell you that I'd definately be interested and leave you with something that you can't sell.

That said, it would still be ~£100 cheaper than the HP, and as it's only really lacking extra inputs I would say that you'd be onto a seller. Tough choice you've found yourself!

Incidentally you don't know of any sort of DVI switch do you? If I could pick up a cheap one of them I may be more tempted, but I can't find anything by a known A/V brand.

That's the problem. When people are spending this kind of money they generally spend the extra to get the whole package which the Philips is lacking slightly but obviously at the cost saving.

DVI switchers are available for about £12 if you Google it but nothing really from a well known brand as such.

On another note, I've just found they do it in black: http://www.consumer.philips.com/con...G_CONSUMER/LCD-widescreen-monitor+240PW9EB-69

It's tricky though, as people will only go for the whole package if they need HDMI. If they don't the Phillips lacks absolutely nothing compared to the HP; don't suppose that you guys have any clever market research into how many people use their monitors for more than their PC?

Looks nice in black!!!

I think you've hit the nail square on the head with this comment. This monitor is in somewhat of middle ground between users that don't mind a 24inch TN 1920x1080p panel with few connections and those that want 1920 x 1200 *IPS/*VA with every connection type under the sun.

As such, I'm not sure if you would be able to find enough people in this third user group to be able to make ordering a big enough batch, to get that discount you was referring to earlier, worthwhile :(

You could get an hdmi switch and use hdmi-dvi cables, im using that on my OCUK DGM monitor, lets me connect PC, 360 and PS3 to one DVI Socket.

That's one option that I was considering, but buying a decent HDMI switch and a couple of DVI-HDMI cables could easily tack another £50 onto the price, so I may as well go for the HP.

Like I say, for myself it would pretty much come down to which screen I preferred on the day!

My 2209WA just arrived and am impressed so far. As soon as I plugged it in there was a instant "hiss" noise I noticed, which doesn't seem to go away. Anyone else have this? It's a bit annoying.

matt1, that's definitely not normal. Have you tried powering it off, unplugging the power lead from the wall and leaving it for a few hours?

Got mine as well, i need to test properly when i get home, i set my work pc to 1680x1050 from 1920x1200 and unplugged it, picture didnt look that great in comparison to my 24" PVA DGM Monitor, but perhaps because i hadnt restarted it and it wasnt reading correctly.

Ill see when i get home and test it on the 360 also, was pleased to see it had a usb hub in it, something i didnt expect.

The colours look different to the DGM PVA i had, trouble is, i dont know which is the more correct, this dell looks extremely colourful, and the picture is very sharp, 360 looks great on it, and i stuck on a few FPS games, they looked stunning, far better than on the DGM.

The overall effect of dropping from the DGM to this is like a graphics card upgrade, everything looks sharper, and everything runs better since its at a lower resolution :)

Im having problems finding a happy contrast/brightness setting for desktop usage, i find it just lacking extra spark, i know that it can do it though, when i set the mode to dynamic contrast, it pretty much sits where i want it to.

Very frustrating, it looks very clear and great in games, just cant seem to get it how i want it whatever i do.

I find this the most frustrating monitor ive ever owned.

I changed from the PVA DGM 24" - I cant get the gamma correct in windows, but sometimes in games the clarity and colour blows me away. I wouldnt mind seeing peoples desktop taken with a camera to judge how theres is compared to mine.

Overall i find it too dark and ill probably go back to my DGM even though the bezel is uglier than a red haired child, i chucked my box for the 22" away so i cant return it under DSR, i might see if Dell will swap it, i cant believe that people were raving about it and this is what they were raving about.

The phillips looks a great screen, but I agree at £300 it might be a difficult buying decision between it and the HP, especially if used for pc, xbox, ps3 etc and you'll need to spend upto £50 on extra connections.

If you could use the phillips as leverage with HP and maybe got the 2475 somewhere south of £400 in quantity I'm certain you have them flying at the door, either with a nice shiny ££££ graphics card to run it at full resolution or ppl coming back 3 days later to buy one...The HP looks like it might have some competition again, what with this phillips and I believe LG have got some ips (or pva can't recall) products coming soon. And if HP are sat on a lot of stock.....Do i forsee another steal like the NEC?

If thats never going to be an option (I've never dealt with HP before, Phillips used to have quite loose morals...) then I for one will order the 24" Phillips. Having used IPS panels side by side with TN+ screens there is no comparison. Mx 360 is happy enough in the lounge with the 46" Sharp LCD.

There is also no serial numbers on the monitors, contacted dell this morning to get a replacement (im at home, receipt is at work), and was told id need the serial number of the screen, there is not a single mark on it, im assuming its on the box, but that has been sent off with my old screen.
