360 newb, tell me what I need

I'm looking to get an Xbox 360. Never had one before and I've no idea which one I should go for/need.

Should I buy new or off of fleabay? Can anybody recommend a specific auction?

Basically I'm looking to get these games to start off with:
GTA 4
PES2009 / Fifa 09
A skateboarding game

Are there any decent online games.. basically I like sports games, and stuff like GTA. I'm not really into first person shooters. Although i loved Duke Nukem on PS1.

As you can see I need help here, lol!
 
I'd go for a new one so you don't have any problems with the warrenty.

Get yourself Skate 2, Tony hawks isn't what it used to be :(

Give saints row 1 & 2 a try, like GTA but a hell of a lot more fun!
 
Go into your local high street stores and ask if they can do a deal for what you want. I got quite a good deal when i went in but i spoke to the store manager. Make sure you get the premium pack.

Edit: COD4 + 5 are very good MP game.
 
new - get warranty. Get premium console and as said talk to manager and see what they can do for you. Most stores will try and match another so go to a few and try your luck. From my experience in working in a game retail outlet they will generally do anything to get the sale. If you get GTA4 new you may get a months free xbox gold free, you used to any way. Been living off of them for 11 months from people for getting to use them when they traded them in :D
 
Make sure if you buy new, that you get one with the Jasper chipset (runs quieter and cooler, and hopefully much less chance of the dreaded RROD).
 
COD4- Beast of a game. All you will need TBH.
Cheap gold sub from an internet reseller like jasper.
Fifa 09
Fable 2
Saints Row 2
Assassins Creed
Fallout 3
GTA4
Halo 3

All of these games besides COD4 can be had for around 10 15 quid. COD4 is around 30, just shows how awesome it is!

Duke Nuken was recently (ish) released on XBLA Arcade. I think it is 800 MSpoints (Just under 7 quid). Should have better graphics than the PS1 version you recall as well as the usual online modes.

DO NOT BUY the console off an auction site. Most people, when their machine breaks, or has been tampered with or is banned from xbox live, sell it off on auction sites. If you must buy 2nd hand then look on Members Market here instead (for a reputable seller).

Other than that. Buy new, there's too much risk associated with buying a second hand xbox.
 
No point buying fifa09 now unless you get it cheap like £10 second hand fifa 10 is out in october.

The best bargains are to be had second hand like fifa09 and forza 2 I paid £8 for forza 2.

Don't bother with a play and charge kit just get a normal battery charger and batts.
