Was looking at the xbox360 games while on my holiday in france and notice the lastest games cost 69 euro's

(69 euro's = £59)

Wait until the winter, I read on IGN following the COD6 price article and it said due to the strength of the euro against the pound many top titles may increase in price, similar to the Wii going up.

This is only the SRP though, so I'm not sure what retailers would do to combat the issue, if anything.

They have always been that price in Europe. It wasn't so bad when it was 1.5ish to the pound but it is dear now. I paid 74.99 each for the original Call of Juarez and Forza 2.

I never really look at them to be honest as I don't game on my PC anymore. I think, and this is just a guess, that they are about 49.99 new for the bigger releases, it maybe 39.99 though.

Games over here in New Zealand are very expensive, Prototype for the PS3 is $140 (£56) which doesn't seem that horrific until you take into account the fact that earnings here are pretty much a $ for £ swap. Imagine paying the equivalent of £140 for a game!!

Same here 69 euros for a new console games...

Because of the cheap pound I buy most of my games from the UK or let someone form the UK buy me something on steam, I've saved many many crates of beer that way. And they wonder why people pirate games .

Well I know what I'd be doing if I lived in Europe. Certainly wouldn't be paying those prices...

Wonder what the percentage of people that pirate games compared to those who get ripped off is over where these prices are common.

I order all my stuff now from an online UK retailer now. I also get my VAT back on everything I order through them. I got sick of paying that much for games and got burnt a few times with games coming with only the German language despite not stating that on the box, or different versions of games, i.e Saints Row is called Saints Row BRD on my Gamercard, there is no blood in it and I believe(could be wrong) that a couple of the mission types were either changed or removed. I also wasn't able to download any of the map packs for the first Gears of War as it is banned over here.

Here in The Netherlands PS3 games have been 69 euro for a while now, with new games like Uncharted 2 and COD Modern Warfare 2 being pre ordered at 74 euro

I noticed when browsing pre-orders in games stores that lots of them online had put up the RRP and pre-order prices for the games later in the year.

Gamings cheap it was never going to stay £39.99 forever and it's a lot cheaper than it was 10 or even 15 years ago.

Rubbish, people seem to think they have a god given right to play all the games. Which is why piracy is so rife. If the games where £10 each the same people would still pirate them.

Gaming year on year has gotten cheaper and cheaper yet people still pirate. There are also stacks of excellent rental companies people could use to get games more or less on demand for the price of 3 or 4 RRP games a year.

I dont have an issue with piracy but lets not make out it's because they are too expensive, it's because they cost something they do it.

tbh you can say thats the reason for piracy because you have to pay there are lots of reasons why people pirate be it because games cost to much money be it because they wanna try before they buy or simply because they dont work or have the money for said game and prob because the perents dont wanna buy them that game there are lots of reasons and you cant expect it to be just the 1 because it costs money thats just silly.

A kit kat to anyone on here that can decipher that for me. All I can see is Vicky Pollard.

All of the reasons you stated are because it costs money over being free. You have argued against yourself. Yeah but no but.....

Danny is right. Games now are cheaper and longer. I remember when games like mortal kombat cost £55  Also most games back then was expensive and could be finished in under an hour. I re did altered beast recently and it only took 25 minutes!

People pirate because it saves money, simple as.

Really altered beast was only 25 minutes! I remember seeing the sonic achievement on xbla where it says complete the game in under X minutes. I thought no way the game used to take weeks :D

Yeah there was a varied mix back then, some games could be done in half and hour and some would take forever but i think it was mostly due to to the crazy difficulty level in a lot of games rather than the length of the game.

Sonic is a really easy game to finish, you've just got too know when to jump ;)

nail ...... hit ..... head

While I do not like games getting more expensive it is hardly a big issue, everything gets more expensive due to inflation.

I do however think that crap games for 74 euro is a ripoff but I don't mind paying 74 euro for a game like Uncharted or Fallout 3
