Drivers 'don't trust' road taxes

Forgive me for stating the obvious, but we are in an awful pickle :(

Why should I be penalised by road tax due to my choice in what car I own, regardless of how much I use it - especially when fuel duty is already doing that for the miles I cover.

We pay VAT on the cars when new anyway, its like we are getting stung multiple times for simply making a choice :(

We put these people into government to look after our interests, what do you do when they just look after their own?

Vote for a politician that will actually look after your interests.

Oh wait, there aren't any.

Clearly the only way to ensure your interests are looked after is to become an MP

Well lets face it, all the income from taxes goes into a pot, and then what is needed is paid out of that. It's not as if the road tax take should only be spent on roads, just like income tax is spread around.

What taxes are spent on roads at the moment?
From the looks of the area in and surrounding Aberdeen, 0% of any taxes are spent on road maintenance.
Going for a drive in town is like asking for your car to be raped and broken.

Edit: Wish I had time to gather evidence and launch complaints about damage...

I think it should be scrapped, it would be one less bill every year or twice a year, I cant remember when a road near me was last resurfaced, live in a village right next to a junction on the M6 and its always used by HGV, the roads are like a nice crumbly cheese. Pot holes and patch work from were gas/water/cable firms have dug the road up and laid a nice uneven patch of tarmac.

Scapping it and just putting a extra couple of pennies on fuel duty, because I only drive once a month yet have to pay £120 for VED a year, where someone can be driving every day for miles and doing more damage to the road but paying the same VED as me.

I wouldn't have a problem paying the same money if it actually was spent on road maintenance.
It isn't though*, and as a result, I'm bitter...

*Might actually be spent on road maintenance... If this is the case, it's being run by fools and roads are being repaired by blind monkeys.

Its not though I cycle a lot on the road and its just a joke how many pot holes and uneven pieces of road there is, I mean they council went big on cycles lanes in the area and all they did was paint a white line and added a cycle logo to the side of the road, no resurfacing so its easier and safer to cycle. Its all about doing it on the cheap.

Cycling through some of the potholes here is bike breakingly lol...
Still, I'm sure some jobless family of criminals need the money far more. [/daily mail]

We get taxed more than enough as it is, far more than enough. I would prefer to decide how to spend more my money, not leave it to the government.

Fine. There little point in even talking about it. If all motorists and road users decided not to pay the road fund license, then something might happen about it. Otherwise it's all just white noise.

That won't happen though. There is nothing wrong with discussing the relative merits of it and our ...illustrious leaders though.

I've lost all hope in getting decent roads in this country. Even the bits that are resurfaced and done so quickly and cheaply that they're usually more noisier and bumpier than the old surface
