Hey well my sis bf wants a new pc and he looks like hes aiming at around £800. I know he wants to play games and obviously basicaly just the best spec for that possible at that price.

I think a mouse, keyboard and monitor will be needed but we shall leave that out of the price for now as i reckon he will buy them as extra over the £800.

I would have done it my self but ive been out of the loop so long im completly lost on the motherboards now. Anyway cheers :)

Mine is a bit over but should be a very solid gaming pc that has good upgrade potential also the monitor is absolutely brilliant:

Sycho he said to leave out monitor kb and mouse!! Not a bad spec thou :D

If no kb, mouse and monitor for the 800, replace the Sycho's spec with a 955 and the motherboard with the MSI GD-70, maybe a 1TB HDD, the asus 4890 possibly (3 yr warranty, better voltage regulators apparently). ALso you would need to get a good cooler like the titan fenrir or a sythe mugen 2.

Some nice specs. yeah i did say to have it without the monitor/kb/mouse but for 800 quid that is a very nice spec. Hes not going to be overclocking so i don't really think a good mobo is really needed. Though i was wondering, i know amd are good value right now. But from an upgrade perspective would it be better to go intel. I mean i guess really how long will the current intel boards last before you need to upgrade them. As on the current market intel are definitely leading with bringing out new faster chips that are compatible with older boards, thus his ability to upgrade his pc for minimum price would potenitaly be best if he went intel no?

Dave what monitor is he currently using? if he has an old CRT then it would be such a huge difference otherwise if he has a somewhat decent one then a tower alone is good to buy with the monitor later on.

Anyway both sockets have a good amount of life in them though if he's using the pc mainly for gaming he will be best going with AMD however if he wishes to go the i7 route then something like this should be very nice as he can even add a 2nd GTX275 whenever he wishes:

Socket 775 is dead, 1336 is expensive and will eventually (supposedly) only have high priced enthusiast chips in the future. AMD AM3 seesm to be the socket of choice for amd for the forseeable future. If they do what they did with am2+ sockets and AM3 and make their AM4 (or what ever it maybe) backward compatible with AM3 sockets, i dont know how it can be possible to compete in terms of upgradability, however thats me speculating there (hehehe) Intel 1156 socket is coming soon thou so maybe wait till september?

Sycho's spec is pretty awesome thou :D

Ah ok then cheers, im unsure as to what monitor he has. I dont think its CRT but i suspect its probably a cheap 19" but i thnik right now he just wants to get the tower and then add a monitor in later. However the first spec is damn good for the price with that monitor so he may go for it anyway.

Its nice to see amd back in the game, i really have been out of the loop a long time. Looks like some good buys in here, ill talk to him soon about it. See what he wants to do. Cheers guys :)

How long is he planning before buying the monitor ?
Because if it's going to be long ( 2-3months ? ) then just as well he could wait with the rig or get something cheaper.

I really don't see a point running an i7 or 955BE on a 19" monitor... seriously... you won't use even 30% of its power.

I would rather get cheaper rig with upgrade in mind and the monitor at the same time.
And anyways, even 400-500GBP rig will handle any game up to date maxed out.

The Sycho's setup is excellent and if you get lucky, you might get 2 extra working cores unlocked for free :).
If you take out mouse and keyboard outta it you could get better case and that's what I will do.

O i agree its totaly pointless on a 19" but he will be aiming for a 22" no doubt either at the same time of buying the pc or shortly after. Plus this is a no hassel pc as im building it, he wont want to fiddle with it after. Any upgrades to the pc wont be done for at least a year and a half probably.

Sigh, he went to ******. Claims he got a 8 core pc. Moron, i give up with people lol. I checked out pc's he might of bought, one of them has a 9300GS in for £1300

ohhhhhh no.

Vortx, thats an AM3 mobo with an AM2+ chip so wouldn't work anyway :D That and you suggested tri channel ram!!
