Yeah, sort of. Been struggling with Achilles issues over the past month or two. Starting to get back on my feet though and hope to be at a relatively race-worthy level come September/October. It sucks

Love the way people can determine that someone does not have a condition based on little or no knowledge and an internet post.
I got shin splints when running on concrete and I was and still am a lightweight compared to the OP. I always run on grass now. I think partly its just something that your body has to become accustomed to, but obviously try to break into it easily.
In my opinion you will get shin splints when your body is not used to the exercise. When did you expect him to get shin splints? If you do any exercise then you bones will become stronger (fact), when do you think the most stress is on the body?run less than 4 miles
