So, I found out yesterday that my old T reg Mondeo needs about £600 of work doing to it, urgh. I figured it's not really worth it and I might be better off just getting something else so I've been having a search around on autotrader and found This car

I have about 1k to spend, could maybe stretch to £1500 right now but that one looks quite nice. Opinions? I don't really want to spend any more than that and don't want to get anything on finance so that's my budget.

Go easy on me, I've never strayed into Motors before :p

Better the devil you know :p

How many miles has your current Mondeo got on it and what work needs doing on it?

About 115k on the current one, needs two new tyres on the front, new brakes on the front, new exhaust, two coils on the anti roll bars and another spring - to be honest my mind kinda went blank when he started telling me all this stuff as I know bugger all about cars :p

Apart from that it also needs a new rear bumper and could do with a new passenger seat but those are just cosmetic :p

I'm getting a friend who owns a garage to look at it tomorrow so I expect the price to drop a bit but I'm still not sure what to do.

If it was me I would get the work done.

I have a T reg ST24, last year it cost me £1k to get it through MOT (fair enough I added aftermarket suspension etc)

I could have easily gone out and bought another mondeo, to then have to spend the same AGAIN once it failed its MOT.

This year the car flew through the MOT, I had got the garage to change the front wishbones as this was something I didnt get round to last year.

£600 is still cheaper than a £1000 car.

You then know what has been done to your car, and should last a couple more years!

I'm one of the first to send a car to the scrappers when it needs a fair chunk of its value spending on it... but.

two new tyres on the front = consumable
new brakes on the front = consumable
new exhaust = consumable
two coils on the anti roll bars and another spring = repair

The problem with getting shot of a car because of consumables is that whatever you buy you could find that these need doing anyway.

Aye very true which is why I'll get a price off the guy I know tomorrow, it'll probably turn out to be much cheaper than I was quoted yesterday. I was just annoyed it needed so much doing :( The tyres are especially annoying as I don't think they're even a year old and the tread is all but gone on the front.

I think we really need a full list of what needs doing, because £600 is expensive for what you have listed there.

That's what I said to myself when I paid £500 to get my ZX at the time through its MOT. Got it back all shiny and new, and it drove like a train. Then the head went three days later and I had to scrap it (diesel).:(
