One that will last years!:)

Ours just died so am up for a new one, one that will be able to handle the amount of dirt and greese and oil i bring home with me each day.

Any advice which brand builds the most solid reliable washing machines? Preferably a top loader.

Thanks all

not sure whats available out your way?

I have had whirlpool top loader for years. There uk market products are rubbish but the top loaders are us stuff. Whilst the americans generally get poor warranty cover they don't stand for crappy reliability in my experience.

Also used to sell a fair few maytag machines, much more expensive than the whirlpool and lots more features (not generally a good thing) but don't recall one breaking down under warranty. I prefer the whirlpool as it has no heater, relies on hot water feed only. Suits me as combi boiler sits above it.

Blonde... 5ft 8, large breasts, chain to keep her in the kitchen...

Seriously however I would imagine that sticking to a good reliable brand such as AEG or Bosch would suffice. I have heard a couple of horror stories from mates who's machines broke after a couple of months flooding their kitchens. Those were the bottom of the line models though so try to go for a mid-priced one.

''Hotpoint''s would last forever :P

Serviced?:o

dmpoole are you about?:)

Blah blah blah, after attending at least a 1000 quality meetings on Domestic Appliances the firm I worked for (Indesit/Hotpoint/Creda/Ariston/Cannon) were always jealous of Bosch's track record and wished they had it.
After decades of being the Quality Audit Technician for the company I know how crap they were made and now they are made elsewhere they are even worse.
I replaced all my Hotpoint products with Bosch and that was before the factory closed down.

Go for Bosch or any German make to be honest.

well said ze germans are the market leaders in electric and mechanical devices in europe

I think Hotpoints quality dropped off. My folks bought one about tens years back and it was fine for about 5 years between year 6 and 8 it needed a couple of repairs. I don't know if it died in the end or just became surplus?

I however bought an Indesit (same company has Hotpoint) washer dryer about 3 years back with my ex. We had to get it repaired 3 times in the first year. I let her keep it.

Threads like these always end with two words, Bosch and Miele.

I think Hotpoints quality dropped off.

Around 10 years ago Hotpoint/creda were being built with quality parts because they were American involved and I had a say in the parts that went into the Domestic Appliances.
In 2002 Indesit bought the place and around 2004 they started to buy very cheap parts that me and my colleagues complained about daily.
Between 2004 & 2007 I would quarantine constantly for different reasons and the Italians would override me.
It ended up where me & my colleagues would keep meticulous logs of dates & times when major faults were shipped.

tbh hotpoint fell off the map way before then. Who do we thank for the farce with the drums on the WMxx machines?
Hotpoint Cost us a LOT of money and good will with that one, had a sneaky suspicion that was one of the factors that enabled indish1t to buy them up and not the other way round. I moved to BSH after the drum issue's and never looked back.

BSH = bosch siemens home appliances. Neff is there built in brand only, they also do Built in appliances under the Bosch and Siemens brands.

Used to be all german made, as with everything a lot of the manufacturing has been moved abroad, although I think i'm right in saying they don't outsource / buy in from others....when i left ALL seimens stuff was made exclusively in the german factories.

Miele are good also, but big money. I'd still say try the whirlpool US stuff, and if you can afford it you won't go wrong with the maytag's. In the uk there is also amana, i think there a budget variation from maytag.
