not sure which of these would be the better option since they are about equally priced, the coolermaster looks bigger with more eatpipes, but the zalman is all coated copper & the base is ultra smooth.

this is so i can overclock my q9550 btw, and both would fit in my case!

The V8 is a fine cooler especially for the price. Very quiet for the performance as well. I have been @ 4ghz 24/7 for months and my gtx 285 fan is 2x's as loud. The V8 will also fit about any socket out there so if you upgrade you won't have to get a new cooler.

What speed and voltage, and preferably what ambients? There's a guy on here somewhere with the computer in an air conditioned room getting rather good results on air

I'm running a v8 on my i7 and seeing temps of circa 38 at idle and 62 full load, So looking pretty good here :)

What cpu clock speed and vcore ?

I got V8 in the cupboard as last time I use it on my i7 920 C0 chipset as was overclock at 3.8GHz at idle 39 and 64 full load. Not sure what is like on the new i7 920 D0 chipset for 4.2GHz ?
