I thought I'd make a thread for this event as I know some OcUKers go every year, me being one of them. I've just got around to purchasing a telephoto lens (Sigma 70-300 f4-5.6 APO) and thought I'd give aircraft photography a bash, it's a nice change from my usual indoor photography :)

Anyway, I've only managed to PP a few photos so far but I'll get a few more done tomorrow night and keep updating this thread as I go a long - I took 953 photos so it's going to take quite a while to sift through them all. C&C welcome as always, especially as it's my first bash at this type of photography.

If the photos look washed out and dull and your using Firefox, you need to turn on colour profile support - Opera & Chrome users should be OK, I don't think IE7 or 8 support colour profiles. :)

It appears Flickr has decided to delete the whole set, I'm not sure why...

Tried re-uploading using the Flash uploader and it's failing every time, trying the Basic uploader now.

They should all be up now. I wonder what happened there :(

Also, it appears Firefox is scaling the images down for some reason, they should be 1024x685...

What settings did you use ? I was there on saturday with my gf Sony a200, i had it set to 1/1000 f5.6 and iso 200 - first time using it and know nothing about taking pictures really. The pictures i took dont look quite as sharp as yours. The lens was a 70-300mm. The slower moving planes werent too bad tho' - perhaps it was just my unsteady hand to blame.

Lovely pics, great composition and colours on the lot. :)

Do you use the black ocuk theme? as that scales down the size of pictures posted, they look ok for me.

I was using a mixture of Shutter Priority and Manual - Shutter speeds of 1/800 to 1/1000 for the fast stuff and as low as 1/80 to 1/250 for the props and heli's. I have quite a few blurry photos too, I think it's all down to practice.

Thanks :) I do indeed use the OcUK Black theme, I didn't know that was responsible for the scaling of the images! I'll take a look at the offending code and remove it, I like full size images!

Anyway... More pictures!

Could do with some C&C please chaps :)

Just out of curiosity where were you stood whilst taking the photo's - no11 is almost identical in everyway, angle etc to the one i took.

Then i must have been pretty close to you then. Where i was stood there were two people sat in front of me (one with a camera and his coat over his head checking his pictures), two guys with big lenses on my left (one had a tripod right up against the fence) and 1 guy with a big lense on my right.

Nice photos Kona. Kind of wish I went now. Always next year :)

i went a few years ago when they had the stealth flyby, and also the tweenies playing live further up the beach lol, I wish i went this year,i am definitely going next year.I will have to buy a decent camera better then my s5600

I was going to go this year but my mates stag weekend was the same weekend so missed it, will definately try and get there next year. Some great shots there for a first timer :)
