I have been looking at a few cars recently now most are towards the top end of my budget but i just found one that is roughly 2k less due to it being stolen and recovered.

The car has suffered no damage (as far as im told, would HPI to make 100% sure it is just stolen and recovered)

Would you consider buying a stolen and recovered car?

As long as hpi only showed stolen and recovered, and all was sorted legally.

My sister has a stole/ recovered caravan, not a thing wrong with it

Probably not, I just wouldn't trust it. It might look that there's nothing wrong with it and an HPI might not bring anything up, but I'd just have that doubt in my mind that someone has ragged the arse out of it and potentially weakend some components.

For 2k less it's worth getting a proper HPI and RAC check.

Out of interest, what car is it?

Tbh, no I wouldn't, but it does depend on the price, type of car and what I was going to use if for.

I also think the insurance is higher for such cars, but perhaps I am wrong.

Problem is you never really know what has happened to such cars that have been stolen, driven to within an inch of its life would be my guess.

I think I would buy a stolen recovered car. Lets face it I rag my car around like it was stolen anyway at times, so if there's no actual damage I would probably have a go, given te huge discount/margin for replacement of abused mechanics.

'Stolen and recovered' could mean 'stolen and recovered with dodgy repaired panel damage' or something similar, so look very closely at the car.

Who the hell would steal a caravan?!?!!

We really are in a recession ;)

God knows, She went back to the woman who she got it from and was kindly told to **** off.

Only found out when she went to get insurance on it.

Apparently was stolen in 2005 and her buying it in January was first time it had shown up.

That's all i know but makes you wonder

Audi S3 Quattro

Iv been driving around in bangers for years, as long as the car got me from A-B i was happy. Now im looking at getting something nice not boy racey or chavtastic thats pretty quick aswell.

would you want to sell the car on at some point

if the answer is yes, the additional cost is unlikely to be worth it due to the difficulty you'll have . You may not be bothered, but loads of people will.

If you plan to run it into the ground, make sure its sound, and go for it.

Big Big problem is stealing caravans, same as people stealing truck cats. Easy to nick and high value.

As for buying one I would probabally due to the discounts to be had. As for it being ragged, it wont be for a great deal of time. As above it will be just like ragging your own car to within its life on a sprinted drive!

Don't think i could buy stolen recovered, thrashing the engine (within reason) shouldn't casuse that much of an issue) problem is lots of these cars get bounced up kerbs and driven across grass by the people who take em to try and get away from the cops, coupled with the fact if its been involved in crime and its still got the same numberplate you're going to get pulled over every two seconds.

Its the damage you can't see thats the issue, badly worth suspension arms things bent that you won't know are bent unless you know what to look for etc.

May sound daft but if they've managed to steal a car as good as this (assuming it's a new model) then they probably did so for financial benefit rather than to just rag it around and ditch it somewhere. Probably a dealer or organised group that nicked it

where i grew up there was a lot of crime especially car crime and believe it or not but most people who steal cars dont steal them to thrash them within breaking point.
they drive around sensibly because they dont want to draw attention to themselfs, ive known people to steal cars just to get from A to B.

the majority of people i knew didnt steal to thrash them on a joyride, most will be used in burglarys

Likewise, cars that are stolen are usually stolen in conjunction with a burgulary. So they ransack the house, put all the good in ther victims car then disappear in that with the keys.

The best optiuon is to get an RAC or AA check done on the vehicle. I think they offer some sort of gaurantee if you do find problems and the cost isn't all that considering the saving that could be had. The seller may have documents regarding the ciscumstances it was stolen too.
