Hi,

My old PC just died out and I would like to build a new rig (first time) -

These are the parts I've come up with and any input would be greatly appreciated.

Case: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-102-AN
PSU: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-120-AN
MOBO: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-319-AS
RAM: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-150-OC
CPU: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-265-IN
HDD: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-211-SE

I still have my old GFX Card, a 8800GTX 768MB -

I'm a bit worried about the size of the case, if the PSU will be enough, and how the mobo/psu/cpu/ram all click together, if its a good setup?

will upgrade the GFX at some later point after systems built.

will be mainly for gaming, on a 24" monitor.

also, any ideas on CD drives?

Thanks for any help

PSU is enough for 2 8800GTX

i would get the retail version of the CPU, you get 2 more years warranty and a cpu cooler for £2 more

That CPU is OEM, either go for retail or add an aftermarket cooler, because OEM ones don't come with one.

The case is good, if you mean too big then you could go for something like the Coolermaster Scout.

That power supply is overkill, i would get one of these:

RAM, 12GB will just bottleneck. Nobody even uses 4GB, and 6GB is extremely future proof.

Get this for a HDD:

As for CD Drive if you need Blu-Ray then get one of these:
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CD-096-LG
if not then this:
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CD-040-OT&groupid=701&catid=10&subcat=951

Hope that helped :)

Id say stick with that PSU, its meant to be really good, and gives you plenty of room for future xfire/SLI set ups
I agree re RAM though, why 12gig? Im sure 6 would suffice, and yeah the sony optiarcs are getting good write ups atm as far as optical drives go
Id switch to the retail CPU and get an aftermarket cooler, something like the noctua
Got the 1200 myself and whilst its great the stock fans are noisy if on full, I ended up replacing mine with S12s and its whisper quiet now. Why are you worried about the size?

Hi guys,

thanks for all the replies so far.

I couldn't find the retail version of the CPU on the website, could you by anychance link it for me please? sorry to be a pain :(.

Purchased 2 of these, seem to run fairly good.

The PSU will be more than enough, parts look fine :)

Thanks for those, but going to get the ones linked below, not much price difference, so i assume they're slightly better?

On a side note, how many CD Drives can I attach to the MOBO?

Thanks,

I got that HDD (I was actaully looking at that my self, and got those CD Drives, got that 6GB Ram too, but i really want 8, the system will be vista 64bit, and i'll be playing games like aion, aoc, wow, crysis on full res/fullscreen and maximum graphics, as i'm a eye candy kinda guy :).

I went for 12 as i just got greedy I guess, but if there's no point going above 6/8 then thats cool :)

Got the PSU to be safe and incase i wanted to go sli/crossfire in the future, and depending on a GFX upgrade a few months up the line.

I wasnt sure HOW big the case was - things are always bigger when you're face to face with em :).

Any chance of linking a cooler/fans that you use if thats ok?

Thanks for everyones help so far.

Edit:

new setup

You can attach upto 6 SATA device's to the motherboard.

Not sure what the actual difference in dvd drives but one is oem and the one you have is retail which comes in a box with some software (Nero) screws and cable.

the only difference in the opticaldrives linked by RJC and sup is ones OEM ones retail, thats why its cheaper, expensive doesnt necessarily mean better, they use SATA connections so take up a SATA slot, iirc mobo has 6, dont forget your HDDs also use them though, if you really needed you could use an additional SATA controller card though
retail CPU
Cooler
They dont have the S12s on here atm, just google Noctua S12s, they have the P12s but theyre designed for CPU fans not case fans (evidence higher cost doesnt necessarily mean better). If I were you though I wouldnt bother with it atm, you may find the case fine. Re size: I have a really small room and as such a small desk and whilst its much bigger than my last case (P180) it fits under desk in case compartment fine

Thanks again guys,

this is the final setup, any final reccomendations?

p.s, the system will be overclocked, looking to hit 3.5-3.8 max i think,

thanks for the help so far.

Youre buying a setup like that and you want 3.5-3.8 max? youre mad, that setup will EASILY blow past 4GHz no questions asked, if you only want 3.5-3.8 for whatever reason save a fortune on the mobo in particular (the P6T would do)

well, i didnt know how much to tax the machine, but if it'll hit 4ghz that easy thats what i'll, will be ordering tomorrow, incase anyone has any more input, mainly to assist with cooling, any fans i can add to mobo/case to help with it?

thanks for everyones help so far.
