I feel like buying something that will give me some short term entertainment and have always fancied a remote control car, or possible a boat as I have a local lake.

Wanted to get a petrol one, will I be able to get something good for around £150? Anyone got any recommendations or in the know?

www.rcgroups.com

great forum for all rc models, including cars and boats!

Personally I prefer flying as driving gets dull - you could get a good coaxial heli for that (the easy kind which are good to learn with) complete setup or a trainer plane.

What about a sailing boat - my fast boats never get used but sailing doesn't get dull. Check out the victoria (I have one and it is a great model):

dude keeps pulling out a petrol/nitro style RC car on the park at the back of my house. its damn fast and looks fun... but he will never give his kid a go!

whats all that about?

If you want short term entertainment, then get a RC boat.
First time out on the lake, it's bound to get out of range, ending your entertaiment. :D

I’ve got a LST 2 nitro monster truck, its loads of fun jumping it off ramps and getting chased by dogs. All only down side is the cost, because pretty much every time I take it out something brakes.

yep, at least losi's are easy to fix tho

the hpi savage is a complete nightmare to work on, horrible design

I used to hit one of those 'rampage' 4 ft 1/4 pipe bmx ramps at 50+ mph, i kid you not, it would go 60ft + in the air, i'd do a tripple back flip and land on the wheels, and 50% of the time it would be fine, no breakages

awesome hobby, but soooo expensive

ebay has lots going cheap bear in mind that you need a few bits though to get going.
1. glow plug starter
2. fuel bottle
3. fuel
4. fail safe if not supplied with car (don't want to loose it)
5. recharge able pack for car battery clips are not very reliable.
all the bits soon start adding up but nitro is the way to go for cars 10min and thats it with electric nitro just keeps going

The Tamiya M06 mini could be got in budget I think:
Kit - £80
Futaba handset, receiver and servo (x2 but you only need 1) - £40
Digital speed controller (essential, much better than the servo operated one) - £25
Hydraulic dampers - £25
Ball bearings all round (gearbox and wheels) - £10

The limited slip ball diff can be helpful, but is not essential - £15

It's a FWD electric mini, runs any day out the box, much fun, no slouch.
