While searching the web, found a camera for sale that to me is sooo tempting, even though I know it may be a crazy idea, due to the fact it's old tech now.....
Contax N Digital.....long discontinued, but Full frame (was the first one on the market I believe) but only 6mps !!! Has reputation of being a bit quirky on the software side, but superb image quality thanks to the Carl Zeiss lenses...which I already own for my Film N1.......
Crazy idea.......I will sleep on it ;-))

what about lenses? Batteries? and how much?

It'll be pointless having FF if it's not even as good as a current crop camera in terms of ISO performance, the main reason people get FF is because they perform much better in low light than crop.

I have the lenses, from my Film Contax, 17-35, 24-85 and 70-200, All Carl Zeiss T*, and based on medium format lenses from the 645. The 17-35 is said to be one of the best ultra wides ever produced. Some have the mount changed so it works on a Canon, as it's said to be better then the L series.....
Batteries are AA...(and it eats them !!) You need to use it under 160 ISO, then is noiseless.
The point would be it would use the best lens you can lay your hands on.... but on an aging tech body...... and all for a little under a grand !!! Bargain ....LOL

I print to A3 on Canon i9950, and my old 6mps D70 would just do A3 uncropped.... So this should be no problem... See I am trying to talk myself into it now !!!!;) LOL

They have bad noise performance above ISO100 so IMO it's a waste of good money.

Buy a 5D/5D Mk2 and get a Contax/EOS adapter.

Errr.....See my sig !!!!......... I have a 5D ;)....
And the adaptors don't work very well, I have tried a few..... They are better on crop sensor camera. Where there is more clearance between the mirror and the rear element of the lens. The 5D mirror hits a few of the lenses and doesn't work..... Plus I just sold my MM series Contax/CZ lenses last week.. LOL.....
The N series lenses don't have an adaptor for the Canon range. Though they can be sent to a guy in Canada who replaces the mount with a Canon item... and achieves full compatibility. But I want to keep them as Contax fitting, for my N1 etc.

High ISO is not important, I grew up with Pan F and FP4 !!! ;).... My 5D is normally set to 200, which is only one stop faster anyway !

I have heard about the 5D's mirror hitting the rear element on some manual lenses (Takumar 50mm 1.4 namely).

I've also heard that the 5D mk2 doesn't have that problem.

Sorry, didn't read past Carl Zeiss in your sig. :o

"only 6mp"

6MP is enough for saatisfying prints up to A3 size. I would not disqualify a camera from use based on the *number* of pixels, but realistically how good those 6 million pixels are :)

True, I use to mange with 6 on a Crop Sensor, but this is Full Frame.... Plus I get to use my lovely Contax/Carl Zeiss Lens ;-) ....... Shop not answered my email yet... will have to call them tomorrow.
Would be interesting to see how it compares to the 12mp and L glass on my 5D..hahaha
