Police new head scarfs

like taking your shoes off when going into someone's house
It's not at all like that, someone of one religion is being (i assume) forced to adhere to the rituals of another. These police officers should feel subjugated and insulted.

no one is being forced to do anything.

When I went to a synagogue on a school RE trip in the 80s we were all asked to wear headgear. OMG I HAVE BEEN AFFECTED FOR LIFE.

Oh come on, it's to go into a mosque ONLY and it's just a bit of bloody cloth, this is basicaly ther same as z0mbi3 said, like taking your shoes off when going into someone's house, it's not like they are being forced to speak a differant language or pray before they can go in.

slippery slope, next it will be 'police officers to wear head scarves in predominantly muslim communities', it's rubbish, it's not necessary and it shouldn't have to be the case.

OK, its probably just a poorly written article, but the very fact that people would complain about the issue is surely the point, and that the complaint has been legitimised and respected offends me.

I don't actually see where in the article it refers to people complaining either?

You need to be better received to go about police business? Oh please.

It's a gesture of good will, it shows the police care about the community a bit. Surely by making relatively little efforts like this the Muslim community might be more inclined to work with the police?

I'm sure it wouldn't be looked on favourably if one refused and if they did not wear them when others are they would stand out in said mosque, most likely however I assume that if they refused to wear it they would just not be assigned to mosque related duties, singling that officer out.

Again it's not stated in the article whether it is required or forced to wear but as above if they are not forced to they would be given special treatment.

Either way, at the moment it looks like they are being given to particular people within the force who are probably ok with it. But I still think it's completely ridiculous... Mainly because religion itself is ridiculous.

Community? We are in Britain - we are not in Tehran. If you have a problem with how Britain is then you are welcome to go back to wherever you came from, be that Islamabad or Tehran or wherever.
Shall I ask all WPCs to enter my house in nothing but Bikinis because I'm offended by them wearing clothes?

Britain is a multicultural society. You appear to have a problem with that so maybe you are the one who should look for somewhere else to live? :D

We are in Britain

Congratulation, you get a sticker.

Yes this is Britain, and Britain has a very large and diverse range of communities with differant beliefs and customs, respecting these customs is something we should all do, including the police. Saying otherwise just turns you into one of the "Keep britian British" morons who deserves nothing more than a kick in the spine.

Fantastic so because this is Britain we can't be multi-cultural or embrace religions other than the "standard"? It's a bit of cloth that will probably make people a bit more co-operative. It's probably closed minded opinions like yours that mean these Muslim communities feel segregated and the force feels the need to make these extra efforts.

Ahh the old multicultural society arguement, where it is ok to be anything but English, and if you are your racist.

I'm English and I have no idea what you're talking about. Put the Daily Mail down and stop worrying about other people so much, enjoy your life.

Being multicultural is not the same as pandering to each culture that exists within the UK. Being multicultural is about accepting other cultures (which I do) but this works both ways in that each culture has to accept the "norm", and the "norm" is that we do not cover our heads, marry our cousins or give goats as presents.

This sums it up for me.
