BrewDog Tokyo*

I find them naming the product to "Tokyo" a bit strange. It's not like Japan is known for beer making, or just another "let's give it a oriental name so it must be hip" type of marketing strategy

According to them it was inspired by a space invaders contest held in Tokyo. Not sure how, exactly...

Well for comparison it has to beat Fullers Vintage Ale @ 8.5% which I bought a couple months ago. Not just on strength but taste as well seeing as they both cost £10.

Its £10 for a 330ml bottle.

It will not add to the nations "binge-drinking" in any way or form.

Lets use an example.

A crate of 15 300ml bottles of Bud is around a tenner in a supermarket.

So we have a single 330ml bottle of Brewdog Tokyo at 18.2%, which means there is roughly 59.4ml of alcohol in the one bottle.

Then we have the crate of Bud, where we have 15 x 300ml @ 5% each, therefore we have roughly 225ml of alcohol in the crate for the same price.

Now of course, it's likely that someone may actually only drink say 5 or 6 bottles of 300ml Bud in a sitting, but even that is 90ml of alcohol by volume.

By pricing it at the same sort of cost as a reasonable bottle of wine (which incidently would contain roughly 105ml of alcohol by volume assuming it was 14%), they have effectively ruled out the binge drinkers market.

This is the sort of bottle of beer someone who likes beer will buy, to probably pour into a proper glass and actually enjoy, possibly with one more bottle, very occasionally.

I think that "Alcohol Focus Scotland" need to grow up, learn to be a bit objective, gain some basic common sense and perhaps get themselves down to the pub to lighten up a bit :)

you can get plenty of strong beers in belgium and no one is complaining over here..
bush 12% (fair enough, nowhere near 18%), but still, wgaf, seriously?
wine is ~20% and no one seems to be making a fuss about that?

have a bottle of that 18% beer and you'll fall asleep, thereby actually drinking less than if you had pints and pints of lager :p

Once had a pitcher of 13.5% beer over in america I shared with a few mates. Was the most disgusting alcoholic drink i've ever had, would rather drink absinthe then that **** again

Just because its strong doesn't mean it'll be horrible.

They must have a reason within the recipe (other than to live upto their "punk" status) to make it that alcoholic.

Definately will be a sipping beer though, not one to take gulps of :)

Surely then the producers of fine scotch whiskey are irresponsible as they produce beverages of 40% +

im guessing this drink is a way of trying to get around those stupid new scottish laws ? the ones where your not allowed to order more than so many drinks and not allowed to say ''same again''

I totally agree - people who are the "minions" of the binge drinking culture are those who stack themselves up with Carling and Fosters on a Friday/Saturday night - not those who pay for such delights. My local started getting the Brewdogs on rotation (Currently on 5am) and at ~£5 a pint I can't see anybody "binging" on this.
