Why is it so hard to claim money back from the Tax Man?!

I filled in my expenses form in April for what is probably going to amount to less than half a month's tax... yet it's taken 3 months so far, they want proof of everything, including that i haven't been on one site for more than 24 months...

Yet if my employer failed to pay me PAYE or NI, you could bet they'd be onto me within a few weeks

It took me just over three months to receive my tax return, and I had to fight all the way. The number of documents they asked for was simply ridiculous.

I won in the end, though. A £1,600 rebate! :D

Bleh, I'm currently waiting for a refund on the mergency tax I payed last year, apparently they have a 10 week turn around....10 BLOODY WEEKS!

shame about the hassle you are having - i just did my first ever tax return online and got £1500 back in my account 48hrs later!!

I actualy just called to chase mine up seeing as its the first time I've throught about it in weeks, after being on hold for 5 minutes, get onto some nice girl who then said she would email the people who deal with these things, which "should" get it dealt with quicker.

Who knows, my mind may just have been changed.

I wouldn't count on it. Last year I rang them up 8 weeks after sending my stuff in (copies of p60's p11d's yet these are filed exlectronically by the firm I work for????) and was told they hadn't opened that months mail yet as they are behind.

Chased a month later to find that the office I was dealing with was under so much strain, all the unopened post had been sent to another office to deal with. Contacted them and was told all stuff would be dealt with in the order that they were on a pile. In total 9 months from submission to refund of a £2000.
