HTC Hero, coming July on Orange and T-Mobile, makes me want!

I'd imagine 500MB will be plenty for most users. I use the net on my N95 every working day for about 1-1.5 hours browsing mostly OcUK, facebook, a few other forums and on the odd occasion youtube. I'm pretty sure I don't come close to 500MB so I'm hoping it will be fine.

Tomorrow when I'm in work I will reset my data counter and make sure I use the net extensively to see how much data I use up in a single day and post back here.

Unless your tethering 500mb is an imense amount, even if your sat on youtube its still more than ive ever used on a smartphone

Just phoned t-mobile, they have them in stock but she wouldn't budge on £40 a month :( Apparently the tariff details havent been released to them yet so she cant do anything about it. Going to get a call back on thursday

Just been offered Flext 35 (£180 worth of credit) with 'unlimited' internet and a free Hero for £17.50 a month!

They must want to keep me! Although, I'm going to try and force them down to £15 :)

What are both your first impressions?

And G|mp - I had an almost identical conversation you had with Orange with T-Mobile. The loyalty bonus seems to have shafted me slightly; so I've done something even weirder - leave T-Mobile to more than likely return to them in a few days, with an identical contract I'm on now ha!

Can't you ask them to remove the loyalty scheme and put you back on a standard tariff? Seems a bit silly that loyalty is 'rewarded' by getting stuffed. :/

Is it easy to check how much of the monthly data allowance you've used?

I'm very close to pushing the button on a Dolphin 40 Hero :)

you can check how many minutes, texts and mb you've got left on the orange website(you can check the minutes and texts through 150 on your mobile but not the mb unless you have orange world access which is different to the 500mb anytime thing).

you need to sign up for an account on the orange website once you get your customer account number(in the first bill or you can call customer service and get it if you're impatient).

you can also check your current and previous bills online as well, they're chaning to online billing or if you want a paper bill it'll be ~£2/month extra.

How are people finding the Hero? Does it lag as much as reported? My order for the sim-free version has an estimated 6 days :(.

Good afternoon,

We are expecting 500 units into stock in the UK tomorrow and should be able to ship out before the end of the week any contract orders, along with the contact documents and SIM card.

Seems the TMobile and the other plan are identical - but the other place lets you have it in white! :D ill stick with them

Edit out the competitor ;). I've ordered from the same company (sim-free) however my order is still showing an estimated 6 days? I've just ordered a Class 6 16Gb MicroSD to go with my Hero when it arrives :D.

No one has answered yet: how bad is the reported slow-down/lag?

Is there any disadvantage in ordering the phone+contract from say mobiles.co.uk (apologies if that's a competitor?) as opposed to Orange? Can I still get a PAC code from my current supplier and use it with them? (I read somethng to suggest otherwise and just wanted to check)

I went into Orange today to try out the Hero/i8910 HD and the lady there couldn't match the contract I've found on that site.
