BMW Threads (Spam!) prompts query...

It's probably for when the computer gets bored of Moeks 65yr old 50mph on the Motorway and it electrically moves the pedals closer to his static foot

Yes they do, they can be set with rest of the syetm, so seats, mirrors, steering wheel and pedals move to your programmed preferance when you insert the ignition key and close the door. The seats are 16 way adjustable, so there is plenty to tweak there too.

The little joystick type control for adjusting the steering wheel rake and reach can be switched over to pedal control so you can alter the angle and raise and lower them.

Surely you could say the same about everything else in the car? Whats funny is programming my girlfriends key profile to squash her against the steering wheel when she inserts it :D

I'm not sure there is enough movement to squash my girlfriend, she's quite petite, she likes to drive sitting back with straighter arms, like a man, rather than hunched over the wheel clutching it like it's the only rock in a raging river, or something, like a lot of women seem to :p

However she has never driven anything faster than a MK1 Vectra estate 1.6, so my car would probably be a bit of a system shock, for many reasons.

Hahhaha, classic mental image of that + inevitable sounding of the horn + angry face. :D

BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

afaik bmw have rubber pedals.. the only plastic one is the accelerator as it's attached to the floor.
i broke the accelerator on our old E39 by catching it with my foot when jumping in the car. trying to drive with a throttle pedal not attached to anything was rather interesting
was sliding and twisting all over the place :D

Should be enough adjustment via a combination of the wheel at max reach and the seat max forward, they almost touch on mine with that combo.

Another more subtle one is programming her profile to adjust all the mirrors to funny angles, she doesnt notice at first, puts it in drive, then ARGHHHHHHHH :D

Actually, on a vaguely related note, why do BMW/Merc have their accelerator pedals hinged from the bottom, but everybody else has them hinged from the top?

I dunno, but I found the little top hinged pedal in the ST220 quite irritating after getting used to the large bottom hinged accelerator 'plate' in the E46, I really like the BMW/Merc approach to throttle pedals.

I can't believe we are actually talking about ruddy pedals :p

Not even as if it is an all german thing, the 911 has a bottom hinged one like merc's do, but Bentleys for example have top hinged.

Strange. This one needs to be explained :o

Well the 911 is about as German as you can get, and the Bentley is 'really' British, it's just owned by the Germans. Patern seems to be holding then :)

The E46 has that problem, the RHD ones have weird offset pedals but I can't say I have any complaints about the E39 :)
