Cloned debit card

i very rarely use my debit card. ive probably used it less than twice in the last month

My mum is the same. Only uses her debit card a few times a year. Which meant, that when her card got cloned, it was easy to tell who cloned it. Apart for the obvious hassle at the time, it's been quite fun since.

How do crooks actually go about cloning the card? By that, I mean what situations would lead to a card being cloned?

I don't have a credit card currently, just two bank accounts with an available overdraft on each and a debit card for each account. I have never been the victim of card cloning and would like to keep it that way!

It's easy.
You can buy mobile magstripe readers (either modify and fit to a cashpoint or skim it when someone hands you a card if you work in a store).
You can buy magstripe cards, writers, printers, foiling machines and embossers all legally.
You create the card with these.

The get the pin you can either have another man looking, or recording video with a phone (cybershots are popular as they don't make a noise or have a recording light so the person can pretend to be texting) or a spy camera on a cashpoint to record the pin, why you should always cover the keypad.

It's incredibly easy.
After that you can use the magstripe cards in places which still have magstripe readers such as tescos (in which case you would just have to sign).
Or if you obtain the pin you can use a cashpoint. (As long as you don't speak and cover your face, easiest method and least likely to get caught).

Nationwide were really good when this happened to me. They rang me and asked if I had tried to book a train ticket in manchester. I said no and it was cancelled and a new one sent out which arrived 2 days later

I had it happened to me twice as well, first time train ticket, 2nd time trying to get cash from a post office using the security code at the back, so must have been inside job.

Credit card is better then debit card as you are not liable for any fraud, so I hardly take my debit card out...

I remember when this happened to me, and when i finally got it all back i got a new card. To register (to use it) i had to name the last three items i got with it and how much each item cost.

Of course those three items were what the criminal got with it...

Had to close the account and go to a different bank in the end >.<

I was thinking this after my debit card got cloned this week, that I might just start paying for everything on my credit card and transfer the balance.

I used mine at a zoo on saturday and 3 hours later my card was used to buy 02 top ups. I phoned my mate who came with me that was visiting from boro to warn him just in case. He used his card at the same place.

Couple of hours later his credit card company phoned him to check the transaction.
