The Darkness was next up on the break-neck paced panel. The character, who was co-created by Marc Silvestri, and currently being written by Phil Hester, is at the center of a variety of projects to come. First a sequel to the video game was announced as in development, to be penned by Paul Jenkins.

Unfortunately not developed by Starbreeze apparently.

Starbreeze CEO Johan Kristiansson has confirmed to VG247 that his company isn’t involved with the recently announced Darkness sequel.

“I heard that there were talks about a Darkness sequel, but Starbreeze is not involved in anything like that right now. We are busy on two projects together with EA,” he said.

I hope whoever is taking over will give it the same care and attention that the original clearly had.
Some better tech guys for the PS3 port would be nice though.

Could be interesting, first was a good game. Good that they are not developing it though as it ran like a dog on PS3 so hopefully they get some people on the job who know what they are doing!

Makes me want to replay the old one.

"How about I show you a magic trick? I am gonna shove my hand down your throat and pull a rabbit out your ***?" (paraphrased) legendary line.

It came out on PS3 like 3 months after the thing came out, you may as well tell all developers to not bother developing games for the PS3 then because almost every single PS3 port was pretty bad in comparison to 360.

Heck even in late 2008 Bethesda made the PS3 version of Fallout 3 vastly inferior to PC/360...

Yet the PS3 version of Oblivion was superior, Go figure.

Let's hope they can get it right, As most will have noticed, lately 360 and PS3 ports are pretty close to identical. And with the likes of Killzone 2 and Resistance 2 looking gorgeous, there's no excuse other than laziness.

Darkness 1 developers: "It's on 360, Looks gorgeous, now bang it on PS3 with no optimization please."

Not really, the PS3 version has less pop-in and superior loading times but the 360 version has superior lighting and textures from what I have read.

What was your point anyway?

The PS3 had recently came out, not many developers had much experience with it and it was Starbreeze' first title on the system, other developers have stated that the PS3 was hard to code for too and that porting was not very pleasant.

So where do you get off claiming that BS?

My point was that Bethesda, the same company, managed to to create a superior Oblivion, and yet fell down on Fallout 3. I though it was strange.

And I've played both, not just read about it. The games are identical apart from loading times and pop-ins being better on PS3. Lighting and textures aren't better on 360.

It was kind of a joke, I mean do you really see the developers saying what I said?

But it was still badly optimized, Regardless of how new the hardware was. That was kind of my point, And im hoping that the Darkness 2 will be better optimized, I'm sure the improved SDK aswell as company tricks and secrets will allow for a more balanced Darkness this time around

yeah, was really excited for a second and then read that, shame.

Doubt they will be able to get Mike Paton back either due to FNM's reunion..

Still my fave game on the 360 since i bought it back in January.

looks like Bourne is next up for starbreeze

Fantastic news

If they can expand on the first one and make it more explorable and a deeper combat system I'll be overjoyed!

dont want Darkness 1.5.

Hoping for good things in the sequel...definitely loved the first...was one of my fave games on the 360...looking forward to this and hope its as good or better than the first

Hopefully this means the new developers will treat the PS3 version with respect. I remember renting the PS3 game out and comparing it with the 360 version to show you guys. The differences were like night and day, and we all knew the PS3 was so much more capable than that!

To be fair, that was early in the PS3s life cycle and Sony distributed an apparently rubbish devkit which wasn't rectified until a few months after the PS3s release. I view a large portion of the early terrible ports were at least partly affected by this.
