Police new head scarfs

Reading the garbage in this thread just makes me despair. It's not even worth trying to 'defend' Islam, or present any kind of alternative view on the original article, because there's nothing more dangerous than an idiot with an opinion, and this thread is chock full of that.

Jog on.

There will never be any tolerance towards homosexuals...why you felt the need to bring that up is quite beyond me:confused:...wasnt it many yrs ago that christianity also forbid homosexuality??..in fact they still dont really approve of it but they want to be seen as moving along with the times...fair enough.

Anyways lets not go off topic...as far as im concerned as a muslim i dont care much for homosexuals...god created adam and eve not adam and steve;).

Why is it when anyone ever wants to defend islam.............they bring christianity into the equasion?

And no.....modern christian behaviour is in no way comparable to the islamic perspective.

You labeled us as "intolerant" I just pointed out your intolerance. But your right way OT.

Ahh but your assumption that im intolerant towards homosexuals has made you look like an ***...have i ever said that im intolerant of homosexuals??..nope and feel free to find a quote where i have said that...fair enough i dont approve of their lifestyle but thats me and im sure a lot of other non muslims are in the same boat as well but ill be damned if you or anyone else says im intolerant of homosexuals....i dont go out and abuse them nor do i discriminate against them...i have 2 homosexual guys working for me and they are bloody good at their job and a damn good laugh when we all go out for a meal or something...their lifestyle doesnt even come into it as i see them as people and if they choose to date other men then meh their choice...its got nothing to do with me and who am i to judge them for that.

Fact is that it has nothing to do with my religion because even if i was an atheist id still feel the same:).

Spawn you are an idiot! Why the **** would anybody want to go through 20000 posts to check if you have ever said anything negative against homosexuals (even then could have been in deleted threads) when you can not even be bothered to check responces in this one thread and instead quote my first post by spouting your bull**** to stuff I have already replied to more than once!!!

Maybe you should answer those instead

So glad people around me in real life are not blinded by fairy tales its pathetic!

Usualy people say others are "in denial" when they dissagree with them, have to say "blinded by fairy tales" is an interesting new take on that particular boring, overused and generaly stupid form of argument.

Sorry for the particularly snide comment but this thread is realy getting my goat.

How is it stupid? Unless you are willing to consider the alternatives GTFO and let adults debate.

I stand by the point, telling people who dissagree or criticise your argument to "GTFO" isn't exactly mature.

Are you for real? Go back and check my posts, what the **** is point when they are not will to listen? Understand?

I got a 1st in my Women in Islam essay when at uni now unless you have been to uni you would know you have to provide a very balanced argument to even get near a 1st.

Now the facts are at the end of the day its not a fun time for women in middle eastern countries under Islam. Would most practicing muslim men want the UK to be more like muslim states? I think the answer is obvious

As a women it annoys the hell out of me obviously

The problems start when religion tries its best to edge into those freedoms, rights and laws that this country stands for.

The laws, freedoms and constitution of this country must be upheld against everything else, no matter what. Its the basis for everything. Things like religion should come from a purely individual decision and practised within those freedoms that this country uphold. Having our female police force submit to someone elses god (whether they believe it or not) to do a part of their job is absolutely wrong and a giant step-backwards.

There is no rule or law that a female police officer must wear the headscarf.

There has been no suggestion that the head scarf ideal was 'demanded' by the Muslim communities. If it was requested, then it has been considered and subsequently politely accepted. Nobody has submitted to the duress of anybody.

It seems that in the eyes of some, a polite gesture is now a bad thing or should be frowned upon - this mentality genuinely makes me sad :(

Its not though is it?

When weaker willed women feel guilted/forced into wearing it, the remainder that don't will fear being looked down upon, maybe have career progression stunted or even branded intolerant ect.

All because of, at the very least a patriarchal religion that has nothing to do with being a police officer!

I have not been to Uni, just so you know, but arguments revolving around constant "NO YOU!"'s (i.e the last few pages) suck.

My reasons for not finding this offensive, or as you say degrading is that it is such a small time thing, of course if this is enforced on a larget scale, i.e officers asked to wear them in areas with a high ppulation of muslime etc I would take that as being, by far, an afront to both women and the Police.

However, this is just a select number of women, in a reletively small area, being asked to wear a head scalf in a holy building, maybe a couple of times a month. I know this sounds like I'm saying "It's no big deal" but the reason is because it's just not worth getting so worked up over.

Of course the personal opinions of the officers in question will be taken into account, if they don't want to I imagine they won't have to, the poilice force won't ignore or force them into a situation they feel is degrading or unfair.

Now you can draw sililarities to christianity and "What about in THIS situation" but it's not the point, the point is that the gap between the cultures of predominantly muslim communities is so large due to the recent boom in it's size that there is very little that can be done about it, apart from showing that we, as a nation are willing to respect them, their beliefs and are not in some way forcing them to become english.

Of course this works the other way, they should not force US to attend their beliefs, but somewhere along the line SOMEONE is going to have to "take one for the team" and give it a go, or no progress will ever be made.

I think of it as an act of good will, with all the islamic hatred at the moment, making them understand the police, who are there to protect them from this are by no means offended by their beliefs will be veyr reassuing, and will (hopefully) give them the insentive to follow our example and maybe make some exceptions and intergrate more completely into our culture.

That ended up very long, and I apologise for the probably many spelling and grammer errors.

I would argue that women in Western countries have the opposite problems of women in Muslim countries due to having idealistic body types 'forced' upon them through the media and having to conform to certain looks which they cannot achieve without surgery or anorexia. The Muslims may repress 'their' women but we sexualise 'ours' all the time and no complaint is made (not that I'm personally against nudity). Maybe you should look at our own problems before casting aspersions on how life is for those in other countries.

Personally, I don't care how women are treated in their own Muslim countries because its none of my business just like I don't care how the Chinese Government oppress freedom of speech or how fair Iran's recent elections were.

I also find it funny how men pretend to care about the supposed oppression of women in Islam whilst fapping to Mega ***** 3: Lesbian Anal Revenge Edition.
