I cannot get my washing machine vibration free

Hi all

I'm the same person who was asking for plumbing advice regarding my new dishwasher. I've had my LG washing machine for about 15 months now, and I am yet to get it completely level and vibration free. The machine causes absolutely terrible vibrations through the floor that makes glasses in the cupboards rattle, and water in a glass in the next room to ripple slightly. Upstairs, the machine makes an irritating resonance type noise that is unpleasant.

I have tried ALL which ways to stop the machine from vibrating like this. The bolts from the back are of course, all out, and I have adjusted the legs up and down about a million times. I have used a spirit level as best I can given that the machine is under the bench in the kitchen, and I have tried to get it as level as I can, yet this awful vibrating still persists. The front 2 legs of the machine are on the lino floor, and the back 2 legs are on what I believe are the old stick on tiles.

I have long since given up ever trying to get this machine to remain quite while spinning. There is no obvious rocking when pushing the machine in all directions, but the damn vibrations will not go away. Somewhere between full speed and stopped, the speed makes an even louder noise that sounds like a hammering type noise.

Any advice is greatly appreciated. My mum also has an LG washing machine that stands on a solid concrete floor, and it's wonderful quite while spinning, and doesn't vibrate a mm. I want mine to be like that!

Many thanks

Michael.

Is the back or sides of the machine touching any walls or cupboards? Try shoving old towels in the gaps if there are any

Check the screws at the back are removed.

My waching machine went for a walkabout the first time we used it

Check the bolts holding the concrete block in are tight, ours (not an LG) came loose and it was jumping around the kitchen!

do this ^^

secondly what space is there between the top of the unit and the worktop ?

you can get appliance rollers from screwfix they help getting the thing out as well as dampen the vibration.

oh btw you only need 1 pack as theres 2 rollers in the box

Sounds like the weights might be loose. I think it would be worth a look inside.

There should be big concrete or metal weights on the top and the front of the tub. They should be securely screwed down, if they are loose the machine will dance all over the place. Take the top panel off (screws at the back) and you should be able to then take the back panel off. The front may be harder to get to but with it unplugged you should be able to get an arm down inside to get to the weights.

You'll be surprised how many people don't remove the packing bolts however on some models the drum wouldn't be able to turn.
Other have suggested, check the weights are bolted down properly.

and after everyone elses suggestions, have you considered that it might just be because on a spin-cycle, all the wet, heavy clothes form quite a nice weight as they blob up and the machine spins the ba-jezus out of them?

He did say his Mum has the same washer with no noise or vibrations.

We had a Hotpoint machine for a while, in which the bolt holding the top concrete block in place hadn't got screwed in right. It had made it through the concrete block, but then it had gone down next to the column it was supposed to screw into. I'm amazed it got through QA, but there you go.

Worth getting a (wo)man to look at it. Is it still under warranty?

Edited for sexism.

as other suggested check the inside's basically, it could be the weights are faulty or simply, its a faulty machine thats unbalanced and can't be balanced. Tried it with a smaller load? overloading it can also unbalance the drum and cause it to not spin cleanly.

Basically I'd get a guy out to look at it for you, if its still under warranty call LG up and get them to send someone out. Should have done it long before 15 months if its always been a problem though. I'd also take it out and put down something for it to sit on, cork matting, rubber pads, whatever. But more than likely the vibration is caused by it being unbalanced and needs messing with inside to fix it.

First and easier thing though, is run a very small load, or heck, no load, see what it does. IF its still screwy it needs fixing, I'd get someone out to mess with it if under warranty rather than try yourself as if it needs a proper guy out you might get screwed for messing with it yourself.

That's probably the reason. If you have a wooden floor then the machine will always vibrate a bit, or a lot, depending on the floor!
