when it comes tomorrow do i still need to uninstall old drivers ????? using windows 7 drivers at the moment ????can i just bang it straight in.

some will say uninstall the old drivers. but it should install the drivers automaticly without uninstalling the old drivers. because the driver package is the same for all ati cards.

u could install 9.7 over the top so you'll have the up to date driver on.

Youre definately best uninstalling, it prevents any conflicts
uninstall then reboot into safe mode and run driversweeper to clear out last remnants, then install new card then new drivers
If you dont chances are you'll only be back complaining about something not working properly, spend 5 minutes now it will prob save your hours of hassle later

Great advice there, this is what I do when just updating drivers, not even changing cards.

i've always install the ati drivers over the top when updateing drivers/cards without any problems/issues.

when updateing over the top it automaticly removes the old CCC and updates the driver

Just "install over top." Ati's install manager will take care of all needed gubbins for you.

Ati only recommend uninstalling their legacy drivers first, but I doubt you'll be running drivers that old....

sry but youre getting given poor advice, you really should uninstall, the number of people on these forums whove had problems because theyve skipped this step Im suprised at some of the people on here recomending you to skip it, ATI themselves even say you should uninstall, generally a good idea to do as the card manufacturer says, ATI link

never had a single problem swapping around different ATI cards without uninstalling anything. even went from an x1800xt to a 4850 before..no problems.

I suppose it can't hurt, I guess I'm just too lazy.

Hmm, I'm not so sure about this link. The page is two years old and never once mentions drivers! ;) (just "ATI software"...they do make other stuff too)

Just download the new installer and run it-installers often (silently) invoke the previous version's uninstaller so it's basically gonna do the same thing anyway. How many programs do you install updates to which do this - loads!

that page was Last Updated 8/14/2007 . yes u had to uninstall in the past but from ATI 8.2 drivers u can just install over the top.

I install over the top and have yet to have any issues, each to their own though. Some people prefer the other method, just see what works for you.

OK a more recent version, link, specifically referring to drivers rather than software (as clearly drivers musnt be software???)
A Quote for you though Before installing the latest Catalyst drivers, any previous drivers must be uninstalled
Its good that some of you have had no issues, but surely youve seen the many posts on here of people having had issues? I dont see why you wouldnt take the safest course of action, its not exactly difficult
