I'm >>> <<< this far away from purchasing a 2nd hand BMW.
Great spec, one lady owner, it's mint and perfect for me in every way.
The only thing I find annoying is the model badge on the rear has been replaced by a tacky M badge.
It's not an 'M' car and never will be an 'M' car, so it got to come off!
I'm not posting the specific model number here, in case anyone decides to go looking and gets in before me tomorrow. All will be revealed once bought! ;) Paranoid or what!

All i need to know really is... are xxxi model badges available from BMW ???

A quick search on ebay shows a 330i badge for £3 + p&p so I imagine you'll be able to get them somewhere for sure.

Why not just take the M badge off and leave it clean, quite a few brand new BMW's have clean backs now as its a factory option to have no model badge.

They do, at least the new E90's do and as long as it's not a barry car it'll look fine.

Will hide the fact it's a 318i or give you a bit of a sleeper if it's a 330i to most of the public.

You cant hide the fact it is a 4 pot BMW, unless you change the exhaust that is :p

And de badged BMWs have been around for a long long time from what i have seen

some BMW's do carry the ///M badge even though it's not an 'M' car, it's also a trim on some models i think.

infact, i believe even [TW]Fox's 530i has 'M' badges iirc?

All Sport models carry the M designation on trim panels and alloys and stuff, mine has 8 ///M badges for example as standard, this is normal.

ONLY a proper ///M car however has an M badge on the boot lid. All others were put on by their owners.

TBH your average person won't know the difference between a 318 and 330 when looking at the car being driven.

There's a couple around my area with just the ///M on the boot lid, a 5 and a 3, i just assumed it had the M sport pack / trim / whatever you call it.

I'll admit, i'm not a bmw trim expert in any sense of the phrase :p I know as far as E numbers and engines and that's it.

If it has 4 genuine looking exhausts then it should have an M badge, if it has 2 or 1 pipe, it should not have an M badge on the boot :p

What if it is an M car pre E39 M5? :p

You'll actually know if such old BMWs should have an M badge or not as they were easily set apart from the standard models :p But how many of those do you see about today? most of them have been thrashed into the ground and look like turd :p
