Remember Homeworld? Anything similiar?

Looking to sort out a new rig after several years out of PC gaming.

Wistfully remembering how I enjoyed playing Homeworld when I build my last PC.

Any up-to-date space game like that, as pretty and intoxicating, out now?

I see there are rumours of Homeworld 3 - please make it so!! :)

+1 Eve Online, If you havent tried it yet, and you like homeworld, then pretty sure you will love it!

Sins of a solar empire is a good game, but personally I got bored off it quickly as well as homeworld! But eve blew me away, its a complex game but it gets easier!

This was such a good game, i just wish they could make another. The only problem i found was that i had to use a walkthrough for some of the harder leves as it was almost imposible to get the right balance of guns and shields.

I am currently playing Sins of the Solor Empire but its more like Galactic Civilisation then homeworld.
 
Sins of a solar empire has the same 3D-perspective space combat aspect, but when it comes to gameplay it's got more in common with large-scale turn-based strategies than it does with homeworld.

Alas, I can't think of any true alternative to homeworld. I wish relic would make homeworld 3. Or alternatively, go back and patch it so that modern GPUs can run the game without the random <1fps problems.
 
Hey guys thanks for the suggestions.

Just ordered parts for new rig from OC today, so when I get back home I'll build and have a new toy to play with.

All suggestions are great, theres just something about space games that grabs me.

Gutted Duff-man that apparenhtly there is problems with running Homeworld on modern kit, I was gonna install it first thing, damn!

if your using a nvidia card and trying to run hw2 and getting the fps issue try turning off threaded optimisation and setting multi display/ mixed gpu accelaration to single display performance. You should be able to set that so it just does it for hw2. That fixed it for me and its perfectly playable now :D
